Last night I slept so good. It was fantabulous!! :-)

Of course, warm lemon water was first on my list when I woke up on day 17 of this 30-day juice fast.

Breakfast

About an hour after I drank that, I had my breakfast juice. I was extremely happy I had leftover pineapple juice from yesterday morning because I’m getting things ready for company that’s coming from out of town and it was such a relief to be able to grab my E3 Live cup with pineapple juice just waiting for me to drink it.

I actually forgot to take my daily shot of E3 Live today! :-( I got really busy cleaning and just forgot.

I did get my tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar in, though.

Keepin’ Cool!

e3-live-shaker-cup-day-17

I am absolutely LOVING this shaker cup! It has a super COOL ice wand that you can keep in the freezer and when you’re ready for it, just pop it down in its slot and it’ll keep your juice or smoothie extra cold. This is fantabulous for days when I need to run out the door with juice in hand and I can enjoy a cold drink longer. The E3 Live folks are just awesome for including the ice wand with this shaker cup! :-)

Anyway, I had GREEN PINEAPPLE JUICE this morning because I added a scoop of Amazing GrassGreen SuperFood powder. It was actually really good! Seriously.

Lunch + Dinner

Since I was expecting company from out of town this afternoon, I decided it’d probably make it easier if I juiced lunch and dinner at once. So, I grabbed the following…

Yum!

heirloom-lettuce-concoction-day-17

2 heaping handfuls of heirloom, organic lettuce (from my garden)

2 apples

2 – 1 inch pieces ginger

handful parsley

3 small beets (from Amish produce stand)

1 carrot

2 celery stalks

Pretty Colors!

All Stirred Up

I diluted this one about 60/40 and had enough juice to fill up my E3 Live shaker cup, my Amazing Grass shaker cup, and also had a dab left in the juice machine cup and I drank it straight from that cup! :-)

extra-juice-day-17

Actually, after I made this double batch of juice, I got busy cleaning again and preparing for my company and I never drank my dinner juice!! That’s okay, though. I wasn’t craving it and I breezed right on through the day with plenty of energy and never even missed it. I had plenty of regular water and herbal tea as well, so I’m good. And I’ll be loving it in the morning when I can just grab my cup of juice and leave to go run some errands. Makes it SO convenient!

And there you have it… day 17 was a success and I can’t believe tomorrow is day 18!!

Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

    Hi, Herb.

Thanks for stopping by! You know, I know it’s hard to believe, but once you’ve been eating a really clean, pure diet, those cravings really aren’t there anymore. I haven’t had a burger and fries in I don’t know when. Now, not too long ago, I had several deaths in my family all at once, and they were young people: ages 32, 26, and 28. I grew up with two of them; one was like my little sister. That really, really hit me very hard. And I fell of the 100% raw food wagon. I wasn’t really craving the foods I chowed on physically–it was an emotional experience for me. I was upfront with my readers and that’s one of the reasons I decided to do this 30-day juice fast–to not only cleanse from eating non-raw foods, but to find that peaceful place that comes with longer juice fasts and get myself (mind, body, and soul) kind of straightened out again and back on the right path (for me), which is at minimum high-raw. And if I ever have a craving for non-raw foods, it usually involves chocolate, caramel, and nuts–and again, it isn’t physical, it’s an emotional craving for those comforting foods I remember from my childhood, etc. Hope that answers your question! And, even if you’re going to have those burgers and fries in your own diet, you can still improve it by adding raw veggies and fruits daily. :-)

I love to eat. There is something satisfying, of course, about eating good foods. The idea of good is seriously up for debate though. But my point I guess is this. It seems to me that it’s possible to be obsessed with bad foods in precisely the same way one would be obsessed with good foods. Would you agree with this? If you do would you say eating an all raw diet requires some form of obsession? Is this healthy to use an obsession to power our dedication to eat certain foods?

    Raw Juice Girl Reply:

I do, too! Yes, good food does satisfy the body and soul. Yes, there is a debate about good food. See, while I eat mostly raw, I still love farm fresh, organic eggs sometimes. Some Raw Foodists (who are strictly 100% raw–and I have been 100% raw at different times over the past few years) would say if I wanted eggs in my diet, to incorporate them raw in a smoothie, etc. But, a raw egg in a smoothie is NOT the same as an omelet filled with veggies, ya know? So, yes, I see what you’re saying. And I’ve never claimed to have a perfect diet or that I’ve eaten pure raw foods my entire life. I grew up eating cooked foods. I’m from the South, so a bunch of those foods included things like fried chicken, okra, biscuits, gravy, etc.–and who doesn’t love those comfort foods? Especially a gal from the South!

I think the obsession with food thing you’re talking about depends. For me, I don’t have an unhealthy obsession with raw foods. My high-raw lifestyle has evolved over the past few years. I was right at 300 pounds, very unhealthy, and sick and tired of being sick and tired. I started studying and changing my diet. My Mother was a big influence and it was sort of a family effort to really focus on bringing more raw foods into our diet. I was in bad shape and wasn’t able to exercise, so the change in my diet really jump-started my weight loss. I eventually gave up all meat and became a vegetarian. Some people have called me a vegan, but I’ve never claimed that because I do sometimes eat an omelet or raw honey–two things vegans would never eat, but I guess for the most part you could say that MOST of the time I do eat like a high-raw vegan.

Anyway, as I incorporated more raw foods, I noticed increased energy, more weight loss, that I slept better, my skin improved, and so many other health benefits it’s still unreal to me. I’ve lost and maintained about a 120 pound weight loss and still love raw foods. Of course, there are times that I’ll “splurge” and have something that isn’t raw (most of the time it’s something like cooked greens, stir fry, an omelet, or something chocolate :-) ) but I do my level best to stick to whole foods and stay away from things that are overly processed. I don’t drink soda or coffee and have no craving for them whatsoever. I drink water, herbal tea, raw juices, smoothies, and if I ever want milk, I’ll have a nut milk–like almond.

I realize there are people who have obsessions over eating certain foods (for example, anything they think would make them fat). While I do not want to gain back the weight I lost, my ultimate goal has always been (and still is) to be as healthy as I possibly can and I strive daily to accomplish just that.

    I hope that helps! :-)

You’re most welcome, Herb! I had also meant to say that the times I have “splurged” on foods from my past (anything with bread or real sugar, etc.), I have found that it isn’t worth it to eat those foods because I come away feeling bloated and overall just don’t feel well when I put those foods into my body. :-)

Right.. I gave up grains and the sort.. Sorting out various foods with certain proteins that I sensed were causing my body to have an immune response and since giving them up I feel great.. When going back to any kind of wheat product for example.. I feel… Wretched beyond explanation afterwords.. When you eat good food, consistently, then you eat bad food you know it’s bad… No doubting that… The body is an amazing doctor if you listen to it..

    Raw Juice Girl Reply:

It is an amazing doctor! It’s like, even though I feel “happy” or “good” emotionally when “splurging” on some food from my past, I end up regretting it soon after eating it–because I always, always feel icky afterward and it’s really just that emotional connection to the whole idea of comfort food that I’m going for anyway. I feel that it’s mind over matter. If I don’t give in to the mental craving, then I won’t be feeling bad (in every sense) that I ate it. :-)
