First, I’d like to remind you about the current contest I have running: The Bolder Mat Company Yoga Mat + Stacy McCarthy’s Yoga DVD. (Contest ends Wednesday, August 19th. There are SEVEN ways to win!!)
My day started out with an hour of yoga, which was fantabulous! I almost fell asleep during Shavasana, I was SO relaxed! (Have I mentioned lately that I’m in LOVE with yoga??!!) After that, I gobbled up an organic Greek yogurt with frozen blueberries on top (this is by far my FAVORITE, non-raw meal)!
Then, I did some writing + blog work and some other stuff. Once it was time for lunch, I was STARVING.
Spinach Salad

a bunch of baby spinach leaves (this is a bigger bowl than it seems)
organic tomatoes (from my garden)
frozen peas +organic bell pepper from my garden (lightly steamed with coconut oil + Italian herbs)
hemp seeds (from www.manitobaharvest.com)
macadamia nuts
THIS SALAD WAS DELICIOUS!!! YUM!!!
Once lunch was finished and cleaned up, it was time for me to stop procrastinating and make some chocolate pudding from avocados! Enter: Chocolate (Avocado) Pudding Heaven!
Cleanin’ Out the Fridge + Garden Overflow
There was a little of this, that, and the other in the fridge where veggies are concerned. I’ve been eating a LOT of salad but needed to clean out those odds and ends. Also, I needed to use up some freshly-picked garden veggies…

So how long do you keep your juices for in the fridge? I know that ideally they should be consumed fresh on the spot but if I’m gonna stick with juicing, I told hubby today that I need to make batches and plan ahead b/c I can’t clean that machine daily! Too time consuming!
Your garden…phenomenal! The cukes, wow!!!
And your juice made from peppers/chiles…wow girlfriend, that’s bold! That’ll put some hair on your chin

Hi, Averie! I try to not keep them longer than 2 days. If I can at all, I try to drink ‘em in 1 day. I won’t be the only one drinking all that juice, so I’m hoping to get it all gone by tomorrow night, if at all possible. I have also frozen it when I haven’t had another option. I’ve researched all of this and both sides make valid points. I realize that the longer the juice is “sitting”, the more enzymes/nutrients, etc. are dying. Sometimes, though, we just can’t help needing to keep some on hand or make it up ahead of time and most people do agree it’s better for us to drink “dying” juice (lol) than it is to drink soda. Right? Right. My grandmother’s philosophy was always this: “Do the best you can, and can the rest!” — And that’s exactly what we do.
And you’re right… it IS time consuming. Worth it, but time consuming!
Thanks for the compliments!
Oh, no! Not chili peppers–banana peppers. They’re a total different pepper (sweet). I might have to edit that. I have added cayenne pepper to juices before but you have to be careful and only add a little!

Nothing like a juicer to use up an abundance of produce HUH???
NICE JOB! I bet your pepper juice was DELISH!
I have really mixed up how I consume my produce lateley… less juice, more just eating fresh fruits and salads…and now I miss my juice. HA I am really struggling with figuring out what works with my schedule and “MOODS” hahaha
I used my magic bullet all weekend too…
well, I am having juice envy! LOVE all your mixes!

Hello – i just recently found your site and like it very much. Thanks for all the great info. I was wondering what you do with the pulp left over from your juicing. I am new to juicing and am not sure if I can consume this pulp in some way….if so, would I need to peel the vegetables and fruit? Seems like such a waste to throw it away and I am not able to compost.
Thanks
Sam

Hi, Sam.
Thanks for your question! I’m actually going to write a post about pulp soon (promise!). There are LOTS of ways to use your pulp. I personally have been giving mine to my ducks, chickens, and turkeys lately (they’re just pets–I don’t eat ‘em).
You can also make veggie burgers using your pulp. Some great pulp for veggie burgers is: carrots, any greens, etc. For instance, if you’re planning a veggie burger, you probably really wouldn’t want apple or tomato or cucumber in your veggie burger mix so you’d juice things separately and separate out the pulp.
There are also some people who use their juice pulp as a meal or snack either by itself, or by adding some into their juice. So, they’re actually sort of drinking/chewing on their juice to get all that fiber in.
If you make a fruit juice, you can save the pulp to add to muffins or cakes or cookies. You can also sometimes end up with a really delicious pulp that is almost like a slushy or something and is quite delicious!
Oh, and carrot pulp could be added to carrot cake/muffins, etc.
If you juice cabbage and carrots and separate that pulp out, you can make cole slaw!
The possibilities are endless and I’ll be posting pictures when I write about pulp. I do hope that helps, Sam!
