Hi, y’all!

I’m thrilled you enjoyed my last post. Making that chocolate banana avocado pudding was super fun – but eating it was even better! :-D

I actually made another recipe yesterday before I made the chocolate pudding. As you can tell from the title of this post, I made “Happy Hemp Honey Holes” and it was off the top of my head! LOL

I’ve been wanting to come up with a super fun recipe using….

the raw, wild, unprocessed honey Tropical Traditions sent me.

Raw honey is solid.

Add 1/4 cup of freshly ground flax.

Check out the organic coconut flour!

In goes two tablespoons of the coconut flour.

Melt a tablespoon of raw honey…

Add the melted raw honey.

A tablespoon of Tropical Traditions coconut cream concentrate…

a tablespoon of hemp protein powder

After the hemp powder, the dough was too dry, so I added a tablespoon of peanut butter (didn’t have any almond butter).

Lots better! :-D

Mix it all up (I stirred it by hand) and form the dough into a ball.

It was a little too moist, so I sprinkled coconut flour on my hands and played with the dough a little – that worked!

Then, I pulled small sections off and made six balls (aka holes).

I love the “sheen” from the honey and coconut cream concentrate. They look too moist, but they weren’t. They were perfect!

Up close…

The nutty flavors of the flax and hemp were a nice touch. The peanut butter flavor was really good. I was a little worried when I was experimenting on this because I wasn’t sure it would turn out edible – but it was actually yumilicicous! :-D

And… the recipe:

Happy Hemp Honey Holes

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup freshly ground flax
  • 2 tablespoons coconut flour
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon coconut cream concentrate
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon hemp powder

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients to a bowl and mix them (I just stirred with a spoon).
  2. Pull small pieces of dough off.
  3. Roll dough into little balls (aka holes).
  4. Pop in the fridge, freezer, or even dehydrator if you like – I just popped one in my mouth right away! ;-)

Enjoy!

Winning Number

There were 131 comments on the E3Live + BrainOn contest post. I visited Mr. Random (random.org) to select a winner.

The number result was 99.

E3Live BrainOn contest winner

Owner of #99

Why, that’d be Cyn from www.writeforehow.com!!

Cyn’s winning comment:

I follow your rawjuicegirl account on twitter.

I especially thought Cyn’s comments on the review posts (part of the  contest entry options) were very sincere and deserving of winning this contest!

Cyn’s comment on The BrainOn Review

14 Cyn { 11.15.09 at 11:46 pm }

I. So. Need this.
I will be 40 years old in just five days. I’ve noticed –in the last year or so– a little forgetfulness and “brain fog” that wasn’t there before. It’s frustrating, because I was always such a great multi-tasker. Now, it’s harder to remained focused on one thing, let alone 4 or 5.

Cyn’s comment on The E3Live Review

19 Cyn { 11.15.09 at 11:42 pm }

I really-really-really want to try this stuff. If it weren’t for the price, I would have whipped out my credit card and ordered it after reading your review. The testimonials on their site are glowing…but most of all I trust your opinion. If you say it works, I believe you. Now I just need to figure out how to scrape together the cost during the costly holidays! :)

Like most of you, Cyn also entered various other ways. She worked hard to get her entries in.

And while I’d LOVE to send each and every one of you away with this fantabulous prize of over $200 of E3Live products so you could enhance your health, I simply cannot. :-(

But do keep coming back. There are more contests in the future and more opportunities for you to win a fabulous book, delicious health foods, or even raw beauty products. Be encouraged, and keep working toward your ultimate health!

Congratulations, Cyn!!!

And a HUGE thank you to the fantabulous folks at E3Live for sponsoring this contest!!!

Chocolate-Covered Katie’s Mission

This post is in honor of Chocolate-Covered Katie’s Charity Page View Drive: Operation Chocolate-Covered Kindness

Operation Chocolate-Covered Kindness, Chocolate-Covered Katie

Katie is doing a fantabulous job of spreading kindness. Let’s help her out!! :-D

In honor of the chocolate theme (and y’all know how much I love chocolate!) I thought I’d share a few recipes. Only one is mine, but I think you’ll like the others I mention, too!

Chocolate-Covered Recipes

Katie has a long list of chocolate-covered recipes on her blog. You’ll want to browse through ‘em all! Not only will you come across delicious treats you can whip up for yourself and your family and/or friends, but you’ll be helping Katie raise money for charity while you’re looking!

For starters, you might enjoy perusing her Fudge Babies. Oh, yeah! If that isn’t enough to drive you chocolate bonkers, feast your eyes on All Things Oatmeal, Pancake Pandemonium, The Pudding Files, or the Most Popular. Of course, there are tons more. Enjoy!

Oh, and you might want to grab a napkin before you dig through her recipe archives – you just might drool! ;-)

Averie’s Chocolate Fudge Balls

The amazing Averie is always, always whipping up the most RAWsome Vegan desserts over at Love Veggies & Yoga. She creates the most decadent, sinful looking (yet healthy!!!) treats over there. She’s an incredible inspiration, from her years of yoga practice, to her ability to juggle day-to-day chaos with a toddler, she manages to be wife, momma, blogger, reviewer, keeps a spotless home, and even hosts contests for her readers! But back to those delicious desserts…  Her latest: 3-Ingredient Dark Chocolate Fudge Balls

I haven’t tried Averie’s chocolate ball recipes yet, but I will soon.

Jocelyn’s Brownie Batter Balls

Jocelyn blogs at Jocelyn Eats Fresh. I’m sooooooooooooo proud of her because although her blog posts are often upbeat and inspiring, she’s worked very, very hard at overcoming an eating disorder. She is finding a beautiful balance of healthy foods and also allows herself to splurge sometimes on the not-so-healthy stuff so she won’t find herself feeling the need to go back to those old, harmful habits. She has an “everything in moderation” mentality and it’s working wonders for her body, mind, and soul. She’s a beautiful person, inside and out, and is losing weight the slow, right way. You’re doing a great job, Jocelyn. Keep up the great work!!!

Anyway, I knew I had to try out Jocelyn’s cool creation when I happened upon her Raw Chocolate Brownie Batter Balls. I didn’t have the exact ingredients she used, so I switched it up a little. Or, well, a lot! :-D

And Raw Juice Girl’s version…

Chocolate-Covered Raisin Hemp Balls

This recipe made 14 chocolate balls. It probably would have made 16 or 17. Um… Oops!! *giggles* ;-)

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins
  • 6 tablespoons Dark Chocolate Hemp Powder (www.manitobaharvest.com)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon agave (or so)

I had to add a dash more almond flour and a little water to try to get the right consistency. I should have used the food processor, I think. I used the blender instead. Hmmmm…. Or, I needed to start with more liquid.

No worries… they turned out YUMMY!!! :-D

Chuggin’ Chia

A while back, the lovely folks at Navitas Naturals sent me some samples. Now, I’ve blogged about ‘em but somehow a lovely bag of their raw chia seeds got lost amidst the contest chaos. (Oops!) I’ve enjoyed my bag immensely–now it’s time for y’all to win your very own bag! Eeeek!

As you can probably tell, I’m totally happy with this product.

So… how about we look into some of the nutrition–and other neat–information on raw chia seeds, directly from NavitasNaturals.com

nutrition facts-chia-seeds

Aztec Seed of Strength

A long, long time ago – long before the era of terracotta “chia pets” — the chia seed was cultivated and eaten by the ancient Aztecs, Incans, and Mayans and was considered a staple food alongside corn and beans. “Chia” is the Mayan word for “strength”, and though these cultures may not have had the medical research to back up their health claims, chia is enjoying an escalating renaissance by today’s medical community as well as everyday consumers. Also full of dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals (especially calcium and iron), chia has much in common with flaxseed, with the distinct advantage that its natural antioxidants make its delicate healthy fats more nutritionally stable. Navitas Naturals offers the wonderful chia seed in its whole organic state as well as in a sprouted powder form.

30 September 2009

First, I’d like to remind you about TWO contests I currently have running:

Chocolate Business

I mentioned the other day that the fantabulous people at www.manitobaharvest.com sent me samples of their Hemp Bliss milk to review. I LOVE that they sent one of each flavor: chocolate, vanilla, original (unsweetened), and original (sweetened)–and they’re Certified Organic. Yay!

Also, I wanted to mention that my contact at Manitoba Harvest reassured me that Hemp Pro 70 dissolves nicely in liquids and that I didn’t have to only consume it in steel-cut oats (see that review here). I took his word for it, and decided to combine Hemp Bliss with Hemp Pro 70 powder. Know what happened? Keep reading! :-)

Verdict/Grade?

I give Chocolate and Vanilla Hemp Bliss a big, fat, delicious A+! Seriously. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this shake tasted. I shook it up a lot, so there wasn’t any random, floating hemp powder. I also tasted both the Chocolate and Vanilla Hemp Bliss separately before I added them together with the Hemp Pro 70–they are delicious!!! The Chocolate Hemp Bliss really tastes like chocolate. It’s sweet, chocolaty, and divine. The vanilla is super vanilla-like and sweet, too. No complaints here at all–although some of you hemp haters may taste the hemp, I only tasted a very, very slight hempness about it. Honest. Of course, I always like to mention that I am used to taking strong, herbal tonics and drinking fresh, raw green juices, etc., so I may not notice some tastes as strongly as some of you who have never included a lot of earthy, herbal-type foods/drinks in your diet.

These hemp milks are $4.99 USD per 32 ounce box. With their nutritional value + yummy taste, I think it’s totally worth the price! Visit www.manitobaharvest.com to order your own hemp milk, or check out their other healthy products.

You may have to start calling me the “Happy Hemp Girl”. LOL  :-)

Yes, you read that title right. I’m confessing that I’m living on an Amish farm…. I know you’ve wondered where I have been, why posts haven’t been published as often as they used to, and why the juicing ebooks are still on hold.  So, now you know why: I’m living on an Amish farm–without electricity! Amazing, eh?

Check out the windmill. Isn’t it beautiful?

farm-amish-windmill

Photo Copyright 2009 HealingwithJuices.com All Rights Reserved

Freelancing is pretty crazy on an Amish farm. Cherish your office. Seriously. ;-) I’ve somehow managed to get my assignments in on time, though.

If you’re thinking this is crazy, imagine how I feel. I still can’t comprehend the fact that I’m actually living in an Amish-built house on an Amish farm–without electricity. Did I mention there’s no electricity? Well, the Amish don’t wire their homes. There’s no plug ends, no light switches, no super duper easy and convenient modern amenities…

So, here’s the million dollar question: why? Why would I give up convenience? That’s what you want to know, right? Well, haven’t you ever wished you could sit on an old-fashioned porch in the country where life is simple, days are quiet, and you can sip iced tea while watching the clothes gently sway this way and that on a clothes line like your grandmother talked about? Have you dreamt of lessening your carbon footprint, doing more to preserve the environment, and living as green as you possibly can?

I realize this life isn’t for everyone. Some days I think it isn’t for me either. But for all the sacrifices, there are so many more rewards. Yes, sometimes I think I’d pay a million dollars for a plug end if I had that much money to spare. Other days I realize how truly blessed I am and wouldn’t trade my life–missing plug ends and all!–for all the money or anything in the world.

Your second question is probably: so, how do you get on the Internet;  how do you charge your laptop? (Okay, that’s TWO questions.) ;-) Well, there’s an answer for them, too! For the Internet, I use a USB modem. It is limited, though, so sites like YouTube really gobble up the usage I’m allowed. And I charge my laptop compliments of solar panels and/or wind generators. Yes, the sun and wind are awesome resources and although it still blows my mind that the sun and wind can charge a panel and travel through a wire to then juice my laptop up with energy so I can continue writing and blogging, I’m forever grateful that it’s possible! It’s almost like magic, really.

There you have it. This is my confession. And, let me tell you… Amish living is HARD WORK!! ;-) The Amish community is fascinating, though–and yes, horses and buggies are to and fro all the time!

What’s that? You wish you could read even more about life on an Amish farm? Really? You’re in luck! A new blog is in the works. It’ll document day-to-day events on an Amish farm. I’ll be sharing the link here when it’s live. Be sure to subscribe (see the end of this post or the top of the sidebar to your left, for subscription options) so you can be one of the first to visit!

In writing news…

I have a couple of stories in the latest Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader: Uncle John’s Certified Organic Bathroom Reader. One of the stories is about how the Amish lifestyle is eco-friendly! You can check it out–or pre-order ;-) by clicking on the previous title, the book below or the link following it.
