I usually always mention that I’ve tossed freshly ground flax into my smoothies, oats, or whatever else I’m eating and I’ve been a HUGE fan of these amazing little seeds for years now. I thought I’d share with you WHY I adore them so much…
Check out the nutrition:
- omega-3 fatty acids
- manganese
- dietary fiber
- magnesium
- folate
- copper
- phosphorus
- Vitamin B6
(To my knowledge, there is no nutritional differences between the brown flax seeds or the gold – I just seem to prefer the brown.)
Fun Fact!
“Flaxseeds have a long and extensive history. Originating in Mesopotamia, the flax plant has been known since the Stone Ages. One of the first records of the culinary use of flaxseeds is from times of ancient Greece. In both that civilization and in ancient Rome, the health benefits of flaxseeds were widely praised.” – WH Foods
Health Benefits
Organic flax seeds are known to be fantabulous for our health.
Check out this amazing list…
Organic flax seeds:
- promote bone health
- have anti-inflammatory properties
- fight against cancer, diabetes and other disease,
- help prevent and regulate high blood pressure
- lowers cholesterol
- fights prostate cancer growth
- helps lubricate dry eyes
Attention menopausal women:
Flaxseed Reduces Hot Flashes Almost 60%!! (source)
I love mine freshly ground. Not only does grinding the flax bring out the nutty, delicious flavor, whole seeds simply pass through your system so it’s best to grind them.
I promote buying whole flax seeds because you don’t know how long the ground flax has been sitting on the shelf and this way, you’re the one who grinds your flax each time and you know when it was ground.
Note: I grind my whole flax seeds up in a coffee grinder. You can keep leftover freshly ground flax in the freezer but I’d only store a small amount as fresh is always best!
I add freshly ground flax to:
- smoothies
- oats
- stir-fry
- rice dishes
- salad
- veggie burgers
- and more!
This salad was made with: lettuce, carrots, celery, tomato, dates, corn, peas, spinach, pumpkin seeds and drizzled with coconut oil.
Why I Love Them
I love freshly ground flax seeds because they truly do add a rich, nutty flavor to whatever smoothie or food you add them to.
They’re yummy, filling, and I love getting fiber in this way.
They’ve been instrumental in my own battle with inflammation, from Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia (more on that in a future post).
Come on, what’s not to love about the nutritious AND delicious combo freshly ground flax offers?!
And you can buy organic flax seed in my Raw Shop – for only $7.49 per pound!!!
Shipping info:
“We will ship orders anywhere within the United States and Canada. At this time, we do not ship to other locations. When your order ships, you will receive a shipment notification via email that will include your tracking number.”
Do you love freshly ground flax seeds? Did you realize what a powerful addition they were to our diet? Do you love their nutty flavor? If you’ve never tried them, will you give ‘em a chance now? Let’s talk!

This is Part 2 of my 3-Part Series on the 9th Annual Spring Planting Festival events + the amazing opportunity I had to meet TWO Editors…
Wow. What can I say? As I look at this photo of me standing next to an Editor-In-Chief, I think to myself: Did this really happen? Is that really me? My life? My experience? My autographed copy of The Herb Companion–signed by none other than K.C. Compton? Yes, it’s real. Yes, it’s my life. Yes, I had the once-in-a-lifetime experience of meeting an Editor-In-Chief. (K.C. is the Editor-In-Chief of a “department for Ogden Publications, which includes The Herb Companion, GRIT and Capper’s”). Like I said: Wow.
K.C. Compton + Me!
So, how did this come about? Well, I’ve gone to the Bakersville Festivals for the past several years. I’ve missed some here and there but for the most part, I’ve attended a LOT of them for a long time. But you’d better believe when I found out K.C. Compton was not only going to be singing at this particular festival, but speaking as well, I was determined that regardless of the weather or what was going on in my life, that I’d be there–and I was!
That morning was pretty chaotic, though, so by the time I got there, K.C.’s speech was just ending. I took a deep breath, mustered up all the courage I could, and stopped her on her way out (she was headed toward another building to prepare to sing with her group). She was so kind and patient to allow me time to have a photo made with her. Thank you, K.C.! (And a big thanks to my Mom, the photographer!).
More Than an Editor
K.C. Compton is not only an Editor-In-Chief, she’s K.C. of: K.C. & The Checkered Past Band! My favorite song was Bigfoot, about the huge footprint most everyone is leaving in our world. It’s such a fun, eco-friendly song, with such a strong, important message. Great job performing, K.C.!
Look at Her Sing!
Autograph! Autograph!
You can imagine all the exciting thoughts that were racing through my mind. For a writer, meeting an Editor-In-Chief has to be just about the most fantabulous thing ever–other than an author landing a book deal.
I know it’s a small world and all things are possible, but in reality, how many times do you think I’ll run into K.C. again, huh? So, I knew I had to catch her one more time and nab her handwriting on the current issue of The Herb Companion I was lugging around all over the place. Those of you who have followed me for a while know how determined I am. Enter….
K.C. Compton’s Autograph
K.C., you can rest assured that I’ll keep writing and keep in touch online–and that I’ll see you at the next Spring seed festival!
And thank you (from the bottom of my heart!) for making a country gal’s writing dreams come true.
Check it out!

Get ready, ’cause in the next post, I’m sharing the adventures of meeting Hank Will, Editor of GRIT Magazine. He’s quite the fascinating man–with a (seed) history that’s awesome!

To Share the BIG News!
A while back, I mentioned to you all that I had gone to an old-fashioned festival, and that I’d had the AMAZING opportunity to meet not only the Editor of GRIT magazine (Hank Will), but also the Editor-In-Chief of Ogden Publications, K.C. Compton. Let me just tell you, I never thought I’d have that experience. It was my first time ever meeting an editor, so to meet both of these fantabulous people just sent this country girl to Orbit!
I feel SO very honored and blessed to have experienced meeting them, and I’ll cherish the memory forever and always. The reason it took so long for me to post about it (I met them back in May of this year) is because that HUGE event of meeting them was SO very bittersweet.
It was that very weekend (while I was leaving the festival) that I received a call that forever changed my life: I found out my 28-year-old precious cousin had lost her life that very morning in a tragic car accident. This girl was the life of the party, and she was far more than just a cousin to me–she was like the little sister I never had. I loved her deeply and have missed her beyond words.
That, on top of the other the recent tragedies I had just faced, was too much–it was all overwhelming. I ended up falling off the 100% raw food wagon because the old emotional eating habits kicked in.
I do have a writing blog (Writing the Cyber Highway), but I decided to share all this on Healing with (Raw) Juices because the old-fashioned festival I attended is all about heirloom seeds and produce, eco-friendly living, and the old way of life–which is what I feel I’m all about here on this blog.
On a Lighter Note
Y’all know I’m all about inspiration, motivation, and happy, smiley thoughts, so I don’t want to leave you feeling depressed. Here’s a sneak peek of what’s coming up: I’ll share the experience of my Mom sewing my pioneer dress in the first of this 3-part series. The second post will share photos and my thoughts on meeting K.C. Compton. And the last post of this series, part three, will share photos and my feelings about meeting Hank Will.
And… a sneak peek of the dress my Mom was kind enough to make for me (I helped–cut out the pattern, that is!)

I’m still sticking with Polly’s yoga videos. I love her positive attitude and her style!
I went with Yoga for yummy abs again this morning. I’m going to see how switching things up goes for me. So far, I’ve tried the following of Polly’s videos: Yoga for low back, Yoga for yummy abs, and Yoga for newbies. I love ‘em all!
Let me tell you, although Polly’s yoga videos seem gentle and easy, I’m feeling the soreness, people! Sheesh, who knew?! LOL
I think I’ll take at least one day off each week to let my muscles rest. Maybe two? How many days each week do you practice yoga? Do you take a day or two off?
Breakfast
Anyway, after yoga with Polly, I decided to have a bowl full of frozen blueberries. I absolutely love frozen blueberries! They’re so tasty!
Frozen Blueberries

I drank some herbal tea after that (I didn’t make my warm lemon water this morning). I also had my daily shot of E3 Live.
Lunch
By lunch time, I was starving! My eyes were bigger than my appetite, though, when I made this ginormous salad. LOL
Giant Veggie Salad

Napa cabbage
Spinach leaves
Heirloom lettuce
Sliced celery
Sliced carrots
Sliced beets
Sliced tomato
Diced bell pepper

That was a huge salad and I was only able to eat about half of it. That’s okay, I’ll finish it off as a mid-afternoon snack, or as my dinner. It won’t go to waste!
Snack
I still have some more Amazing Grass products to sample (but couldn’t because I was juice fasting when they arrived) so I thought I’d try out the Chocolate Green SuperFood Drink Powder for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. Oh. My. Goodness! It’s DELICIOUS!!!!

Non-Raw Milk?
No, the organic rice milk is NOT raw. I’m not a milk person, really. I have never been one to just guzzle milk–even before my raw food adventures. When I ate the S.A.D. diet, I only used milk on my cereal. I tend to shy away from processed cereals nowadays, so I pretty much don’t use milk at all–not even in my smoothies (I use herbal tea instead).
Anyway, although it will be pretty rare, I may decide to enjoy a treat once in a while that isn’t 100% raw. I’ll let you know when I do, like today with this organic rice milk.
I would have made a smoothie with the chocolate powder, a frozen banana, and some herbal tea but my blender died on me.
So, I remembered Jenna saying she just added the Amazing Grass chocolate powder to her shaker cup with rice milk so I just went for it–I’m so glad I did! I’m telling you, it’s soooooooooooooooooo good!!! Yum!
Dinner
For dinner, I had the other half of my salad from lunch. And now I’m ready to call it a night. Can’t wait for yoga in the morning!!

I can’t believe this is day 3 of my yoga adventures and I’m still excited about it–I LOVE it!
This morning, I did the video called Yoga for Yummy Abs by Polly from Yoga is Yummy.
I did the cobra pose, too! Fantabulous, people!
I was hesitant to try a different video. I’m trying to be very careful with my (bad) back. But, while I could really feel the yoga poses and stretches burning and using my muscles, it was a good, warm burning and relaxing experience. I’m just madly in love with yoga!
After my date with yoga, I had breakfast:
Blueberry-Kiwi Salad

1 whole kiwi, peeled + sliced
handful frozen blueberries
Yum-O!
I also had some herbal tea and, of course, added a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar to one of my glasses of water.
About mid-morning, I had my daily shot….
E3 Live Brain On

I think the Brain On formula tastes just a little stronger (or a little different) than the original E3 Live I’ve tried but it’s definitely do-able for me. You could always disguise the taste (if it’s too strong–aka green–for you) in a smoothie or juice. I just take a tablespoon straight up. What? I love my greens–and I’m lovin’ how it makes me feel: clear-minded and mentally alert!
Juicy Ingredients!

4 small heirloom organic beets, with leaves (from my garden)
3 organic carrots
2 heirloom organic cucumbers (from my garden)
small apple
2 handfuls spinach
handful Alfalfa sprouts
1-inch piece of ginger
medium heirloom organic bell pepper (from my garden)
1 whole kiwi, peeled
Raw Beauty!

Juice Pulp
(Looks Like Confetti!)

Yummy Juices

Raw Lunch

1 celery stalk, cut up
1 carrot, cut up
shaker cup full of today’s juicy concoction
+ a scoop of berry flavored Amazing Grass SuperFood powder
(To learn more about this berry-licious superfood powder, click on the photo below!
)

Snack
I had another carrot and another celery stalk (I was craving carrots and celery today! LOL)
And…. some of the juiciest, most delicious…
Organic Cherries

Dinner
I thought about having my other juice in the place of my dinner but then I had an overwhelming craving for the following spinach-based salad. I absolutely adore baby spinach leaves–they’re my favorite veggie! I love them raw, in juices, in smoothies, in salads… you get my point.
Oh-So-Good Salad

generous handful of baby spinach leaves
heirloom organic cucumber slices (from my garden)
generous handful of fresh blueberries
Manitoba Harvest hemp seeds (Yum!)
2 stalks heirloom organic okra, sliced
Have you ever eaten okra raw? It’s delicious! I’m serious! The above combo is absolutely YUM! What’s your favorite salad combo? Do share!

Today (day 28 of this 30-day juice fast) started like any other day: by drinking warm lemon water.
Then my mind started wandering…
Yummy Yoga
I’ve mentioned recently that I have been researching yoga. Many of you have recommended I try it as a healing exercise for my bad back. So, I’ve been reading blog posts and articles about it and also watching videos.
Anyway, it dawned on me! I have a yoga mat in a box out in the shed! So, I went traipsing across the farm to get it. And then it happened: I opened the shed door, saw my yoga mat box, reached in to get it, and out of the blue was attacked by a swarm of the biggest, nastiest, meanest red wasps! Ouch!!!
Wicked Wasps!
I was stung several times on my arm, hand, neck, and leg. It was craziness! They were even all in my hair. I couldn’t believe it! You better believe I did a little (okay, a LOT) of screaming and dancing. (It’s okay if this mental picture makes you laugh.)
It really was painful, though. Seriously!
I came in the house and when I told my Mom, she rushed me over to the neighbor’s house (he smokes) and he donated 2 cigarettes worth of tobacco. He put it in a bowl and added water and then my Mom put it on the places I’d been stung and held it there. My skin was already swelling bigtime, but the tobacco really helped shrink it quickly.
When we got back home, I poured myself a glass of herbal tea and added lemon. I needed a refreshing break!
Since it seemed like I was going to be okay, and the swelling had gone down considerably, we decided to go ahead and leave to run the errands we’d planned on pre-wasp attack.
I made myself an iced, herbal tea to-go (with lemon) and grabbed a to-go bottle filled with water and a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar and hit the road.
School Time?
And here’s the highlight of my day…
I was standing at the counter in a store with my mom and brother. And an older man walks over. He decided to make small talk: “So, are you gearing up for school to start?” He asks, enthusiastically.
I looked around to see if he was talking to me. No one else was there, so he must have asked me if I was getting ready for school. Huh?
“You mean me?” I asked, shocked.
“Yes, are you ready to go back to school?”
Okay, I’m thinking the wasp venom must have gone to my brain because I couldn’t fathom that this man was honestly asking me if I was preparing to go back to school!
“Sir, I’m almost 34 years old.” I smiled.
Total shock bombarded his face. “No, I don’t believe it!” He gasped.
Folks, I had to show him the birth date on my driver’s license!
“I thought you were 17 years old!” He said–after he was finally able to talk again.
“My daughter is an English teacher here. I thought she’d be teaching you.”
How funny is that?! LOL
“All I can say, girl, is that life has treated you well.” He said, shaking his head and smiling. (Could it be my diet and the raw juices and fasting????)
“Actually, I am a survivor of domestic violence. I barely escaped with my life. I’ve also been through many other things.”
But, yes, I am truly blessed.
And…. since I didn’t have photos of juices today, I’ll leave you with a few photos from my garden.
Heirloom Watermelon

Heirloom Cantaloupe

Heirloom Cucumber

(These are all doubling and tripling in size due to the rain the past few days!!) Eeeek!
I didn’t squeeze in my E3 Live or Amazing Grass powder today and I ended up just drinking water and herbal tea–it was too hectic and crazy!
Oh, and on the way home, we stopped and bought some chewing tobacco. Yep, how funny is that?! Know what kind? Long cut natural (next time I’ll get short cut!)
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

My back pain had eased up quite a bit by today: day 27 of my 30-day juice fast.
Bring on the warm lemon water!
Breakfast
I wasn’t feeling like drinking a bunch of juices today–I just didn’t crave them. I felt, instead, to just be. So I skipped the breakfast juice and had herbal tea.
Snack
My mid-morning snack consisted of E3 Live‘s Brain On (a tablespoon, straight up). I’m lovin’ how this stuff makes me feel refreshed and aLIVE!
I also had a glass of water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar.
Lunch
For lunch, I finished off the last of the heirloom lettuce concoction. It had a scoop of Amazing Grass Green SuperFood powder in it.
Heirloom Lettuce Juice + Amazing Grass

(Want to be AMAZED? Click on the photo below to learn all about this super powder!)
Dinner
I was totally content to sip more herbal tea, with lemon, for my dinner. (Sorry I didn’t take photos of my herbal tea–I didn’t even think about it!) Oops!
I really wasn’t hungry or craving juices today. That happens sometimes when I’m juice fasting–I just go for a day or two with no juice and go into a deeper level of fasting/cleansing. I love it!
And that’s it for day 27!
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

And here we are: day 26 of my 30-day juice fast!
This morning, I drank my warm lemon water. I wasn’t craving juice at all so I went with my feelings and skipped the breakfast juice.
I did have some water with organic apple cider vinegar.
Snack
I livened up my brain with E3 Live‘s Brain On (I took a tablespoon straight up)!
Lunch + Dinner
I had a TON of freshly cut heirloom lettuce from my garden to use up, so I thought I’d use it as the base for today’s juice.
Heirloom Lettuce Concoction

2 small cucumbers
1 medium tomato (from a friend’s garden)
3 strawberries
2 carrots
2 handfuls spinach leaves
5 big handfuls heirloom lettuce (from my garden)
1 green apple
5 stalks celery
a 1-inch piece of ginger root
Heirloom Rainbows!

Amazing (Grass) Green Goodness

(Made about 40 ounces: enough to fill up a 3-cup container + my Amazing Grass shaker cup)
I added a scoop of Amazing Grass Green SuperFood (Natural) powder. This juice tasted REALLY green, with a hint of spicy gingerness–and I LOVED it! I’m going to make it again!

Day 25… Sounds crazy, eh? It’s amazing to me that I’ve made it this far on this 30-day juice fast, considering that I’ve plowed right on through a broken juicer + my back going out on me and the pain zapping my strength.
I drank my warm lemon water first thing this morning.
Breakfast
I felt like having a cantaloupe juice with a scoop of berry flavored Amazing Grass SuperFood powder.
(Crave that amazing feeling? Click on the photo below to find out how you can!)
I saved you the agony of a photo of my cantaloupe juice because it was slimy (that’s never happened before!!) and the Amazing Grass powder clumped up and it was disgusting looking! I had to throw it out–and believe me, I can’t stand being wasteful!
Since my cantaloupe juice was out, I drank some of the beet concoction I made yesterday with a scoop of the berry flavored Amazing Grass powder.
Snack
I usually have my daily dose of E3 Live mid-morning, so when I looked in the fridge and noticed that my weekly portion of thawed E3 Live was used up, I decided to give the E3 Live Brain On a try. (I’ll be reviewing the E3 Live and E3 Live Brain On in upcoming posts–and there’s a contest coming for it, too!)
E3 Live, Brain On!

E3 Live has to be kept frozen to maintain its freshness. Each week (according to the directions), I take it out of the freezer and defrost it a little by sitting it in a bowl of hot water. After a few minutes, I pour a few tablespoons in a small glass jar and put the lid on and keep that in the fridge. It’s recommended to only keep about a week’s worth in the fridge at once. Keep the rest frozen. I prefer my E3 Live as a dose by itself–it really does make me feel alive! I can’t wait to see how/if this Brain On enhances my mental clarity and memory.
I also had some water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar in it.
Lunch + Dinner
I enjoyed some herbal tea with lemon and wasn’t hungry so I didn’t have a lunch juice. For dinner, I had another of my beet concoction juices and called it a day.
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

Like always, I drank my warm lemon water first thing this morning, day 24 of this 30-day juice fast.
Breakfast
I felt like having cucumber juice for breakfast. I added a scoop of berry flavored Amazing Grass SuperFood powder to it.Yum!
(To find out just how berry-licious this superfood powder is, click on the photo below!)

Amazing (Grass) Cucumber Juice

All Shook Up!

Snack
Mid-morning: After breakfast, I drank some herbal tea. I also had a shot of E3 Live and a glass of water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar.
Lunch + Dinner
I juiced some leftover cantaloupe so it wouldn’t go to waste.
Cool Cantaloupe

(Made about 3 cups. It was about 3/4 juice and 1/4 water.)
Heirloom Rainbow

1 big (heirloom) beet (from my garden)
several (heirloom) beet tops (from my garden)
heirloom lettuce (from my garden)
small (heirloom) bell pepper (from my garden)
4 organic carrots
huge bunch parsley
2 pieces ginger root (approx. 1 inch each)
5 celery stalks
Kinda Mucky Looking

The beet concoction made 3 cups. I diluted it 50/50 and ended up with 6 cups.
Ready to Drink!

Note to self: If I make this beet concoction again, I’ll remember that it included a LOT of lettuce and does NOT need to be diluted. It tasted very bland and just wasn’t fun to drink!
(I added a splash of cantaloupe juice to jazz it up a little.)
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

Day 21 started out as a day to wind down from the events of the weekend. With July 4th celebrations and my dad’s birthday + my back being out of commission, I was exhausted.
Time to rejuvenate!
Warm lemon water to the rescue….
Breakfast
Apple juice with a scoop of Amazing Grass Green SuperFood powder was my breakfast juice of choice.
Apple + Amazing Grass

Later in the morning, I drank some water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar added and had my daily dose (a tablespoon) of E3 Live (this really makes me feel aLIVE!).
Lunch
I chugged down a refreshing cucumber juice for lunch (forgot to take a picture–sorry!). I added half a scoop of Amazing Grass SuperFood powder because I really needed the energy boost. Amazing Grass products rock!
(Click on the photo below to find out just how rockin’ Amazing Grass products are!)

I also drank herbal tea with lemon this afternoon….
Dinner
I was still feeling really tired by dinner time + I had a bad headache and I needed to finish some writing assignments, so I added half a scoop to my dinner juice as well (leftover Amish-grown cabbage/beet concoction: recipe here).
Beet Combo + Amazing Grass

Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

Day 20 started in a bit of a rush, so I didn’t take time to prepare my warm lemon water. It was my dad’s birthday and I was getting ready to leave for a day of fun times with the family, so I quickly got busy juicing up stuff so I’d be prepared. I was dealing with pretty bad back pain and was pretty exhausted during this time so I knew I’d need plenty of juice with me for this outing so I could keep my strength up.
Breakfast
While I thought about what I’d juice up for the day, I made myself a morning juice: the last of Friday’s Amish-grown cabbage concoction and 1 1/2 scoops of Amazing Grass SuperFood powder (I needed an extra boost!).
(Just click on the photo below to learn more about this berry-licious product from Amazing Grass.)
Watermelon Juice

(This watermelon juice was made from (almost) a full zip lock bag of sliced watermelon.)
Raw Juice To Go

Top, left corner is the cucumber juice. Top, right corner is the apple juice. Lower, left corner is the watermelon juice. Lower, right corner is the cantaloupe juice. Each container measures 3 cups.
Snack
I drank a watermelon juice on the way to the festival (nope, I didn’t get a photo–just grabbed it and loaded my other juices into the cooler and hit the road!).
I also had my daily shot (a tablespoon) of E3 Live.
At the Festival
(Taken from the roof of the new restaurant–which I forgot to get a pic of.)

Look at that Heirloom Garden!

Nearby Farms

After wandering around the festival for a while and checking out the handmade crafts, homemade foods, and heirloom seeds, etc., we decided to head for the park for a picnic.
Picnic at a Park

My Picnic Juice

I decided to have an apple juice in my Amazing Grass shaker cup. And that’s good old water in the pink to-go bottle.
Beautiful Watermelon, eh?

After my watermelon juice was gone, and lots of laughing and talking, I discovered I was craving another juice, so I poured myself a cantaloupe juice before we left the park.
Cantaloupe Juice

After we left the park, we drove around and soaked up the local scenery: Amish farms, old buildings, gentle rolling pastures…
I made sure to drink plenty of juices yesterday and today because of the back pain zapping my strength, so I drank another apple juice, watermelon juice, and cantaloupe juice during the afternoon.
Dinner
To end the day, I drank a refreshing cucumber juice. It was just what my body needed after the day’s events. My dad had a great birthday and we’re so very blessed to have him!!!
Remember folks: It’s not what you’re eating (or not eating), it’s the good company you’re keeping and the good times you’re having that make each moment special and precious!
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

Today’s juices were made in advance because day 19 of this 30-day juice fast ended up being on July 4th!
As always, I started my day with warm lemon water. I discovered in my notes that I actually didn’t write down which juices I drank on day 19. I do remember I drank different ones (apple, grapefruit, cucumber, Amish-grown cabbage concoction) (that I pre-made the day before) and I had about 6 or 7 juices that day because I was really in pain with my back and also because I was super tired, not only from the back pain, but from the company (which I truly enjoyed, but was still tired).
Since I didn’t really document specific details of my juices–or even take photos of them–because there was too much excitement going on (guitar playing, singing, laughing, talking–even horse and buggy rides, which I forgot to take pics of!!) I will show you all the stuff I did NOT consume….
Flag Cupcake Cake

Pineapple Upside Down Cake

Buffalo Burger Toppings

Organic, Barbecued Buffalo Burgers

Plates and Drinks

Old-Fashioned Lemonade

Burger Station

Chips, Dip, Cake, Watermelon, Cantaloupe!

There was also veggie burgers, corn on the cob, fried yellow squash, fried green tomatoes, and ice cream (which I forgot to take photos of–sorry!).
I also had my daily shot of E3 Live, a glass of water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar, and some herbal tea with lemon. And I had 2 scoops of Amazing Grass SuperFood powder in a couple different juices that day because I was just really exhausted. I was in great company, though, and had some super awesome conversation! The gals I met from Wales last week was at the barbecue too so we talked about all sorts of stuff. I learned that Wales is a subsidiary country of England and that chemical/man-made ingredient lists labels are banned from foods sold over there. Isn’t that healthy and cool?!
I hope your 4th was as safe and blessed as mine was!
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

Hi, y’all! I’ve missed you!!
I’m working on getting caught up on posting details about my 30-day juice fast. As I mentioned in the previous post, I fell behind because of back pain. Let me tell you, I’d have sailed right on through this juice fast without a problem (as I have many times before) if it hadn’t been for that back pain zapping my strength. It has really, really taken it out of me!
My Mom (who I feel is the fasting Queen) even suggested I go ahead and break the fast early because the back pain was taking so much out of me. I’ve told you before just how stubborn I am, so if a broken juicer wasn’t going to hinder this 30-day juice fast, you know a bad back wasn’t going to make me stop after making it 17 days!! So, I did what I had to do: I stepped away from the blog and focused on the fast–and it worked! Today is day 26 and I’m still juice fasting. The back pain has become easier to cope with and I’m feeling a lot stronger.
I will say that since I gave you the details on day 17, days 18 through 24 I really didn’t sleep well at all. Last night I slept much, much better and feel a lot more rested and refreshed today. Yay!
Note: Although I haven’t blogged daily the past few days, I have kept pretty good notes on each day’s juicing events. So, let’s get caught up, shall we?!
Morning, day 18
Lemon water was first on my mind (as always!)
After that, I got busy making up various juices to have on hand for the next day (which was July 4th and we were having several people over to the house). I started with day 18 breakfast juice: 100% apple juice!
Plate of Apples

6 apples, chopped
(Made 3 cups + my Amazing Grass shaker cup full)
Tasty 100% Apple Juice

While caught my breath and thought about which juice concoctions I’d create, I sipped my yummy apple juice. When it was gone, I cleaned my Amazing Grass shaker cup and started making more juice.
Next up: 100% grapefruit juice.
I forgot to take photos of the 3 grapefruits I used and had already poured a serving into my Amazing Grass shaker cup (so I’d have it to grab for my lunch juice) before I remembered to take a photo. I ended up with 3 cups of grapefruit juice and the following photo is what was left in the container after I poured my shaker cup full. (I also forgot to take a photo of the shaker cup filled with grapefruit juice… guess the back pain was getting to my brain!
)
Grapefruit Juice = Delish!

Cucumbers for Juicin’

I can’t remember for sure because I forgot to count them, but I believe I juiced 5 or 6 cucumbers to make my cucumber juice….
100% Cucumber Juice

Amish-Grown Cabbage Concoction

2 handfuls parsley
3 handfuls spinach leaves
2 small beets
5 (skinny) carrots
2 chunks ginger (about 1 inch or so each)
almost a whole bundle of celery
rest of the Amish-grown cabbage (it was HUGE!)
Gorgeous, Swirly Colors!

Snack
While cleaning up, I had a shot (a tablespoon) of E3 Live and and sipped on a glass of water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar.
Lunch + Dinner
For some reason, I forgot to write down which juices I drank the rest of the day on day 18!! If I remember correctly, though, I do believe I had a cucumber juice for lunch and the Amish-grown cabbage concoction for my dinner juice. And I know I put a scoop of Amazing Grass Superfood (All Natural) powder in my lunch juice.
(Just click the photo below to learn more about this AMAZING product!!)
I also (of course) drank water and herbal tea.
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

Last night I slept so good. It was fantabulous!!
Of course, warm lemon water was first on my list when I woke up on day 17 of this 30-day juice fast.
Breakfast
About an hour after I drank that, I had my breakfast juice. I was extremely happy I had leftover pineapple juice from yesterday morning because I’m getting things ready for company that’s coming from out of town and it was such a relief to be able to grab my E3 Live cup with pineapple juice just waiting for me to drink it.
I actually forgot to take my daily shot of E3 Live today!
I got really busy cleaning and just forgot.
I did get my tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar in, though.
Keepin’ Cool!

I am absolutely LOVING this shaker cup! It has a super COOL ice wand that you can keep in the freezer and when you’re ready for it, just pop it down in its slot and it’ll keep your juice or smoothie extra cold. This is fantabulous for days when I need to run out the door with juice in hand and I can enjoy a cold drink longer. The E3 Live folks are just awesome for including the ice wand with this shaker cup!
Anyway, I had GREEN PINEAPPLE JUICE this morning because I added a scoop of Amazing GrassGreen SuperFood powder. It was actually really good! Seriously.
Lunch + Dinner
Since I was expecting company from out of town this afternoon, I decided it’d probably make it easier if I juiced lunch and dinner at once. So, I grabbed the following…
Yum!

2 heaping handfuls of heirloom, organic lettuce (from my garden)
2 apples
2 – 1 inch pieces ginger
handful parsley
3 small beets (from Amish produce stand)
1 carrot
2 celery stalks
Pretty Colors!

All Stirred Up

I diluted this one about 60/40 and had enough juice to fill up my E3 Live shaker cup, my Amazing Grass shaker cup, and also had a dab left in the juice machine cup and I drank it straight from that cup!

Actually, after I made this double batch of juice, I got busy cleaning again and preparing for my company and I never drank my dinner juice!! That’s okay, though. I wasn’t craving it and I breezed right on through the day with plenty of energy and never even missed it. I had plenty of regular water and herbal tea as well, so I’m good. And I’ll be loving it in the morning when I can just grab my cup of juice and leave to go run some errands. Makes it SO convenient!
And there you have it… day 17 was a success and I can’t believe tomorrow is day 18!!
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

I slept really well again last night. I woke up this morning feeling very refreshed and thinking about everything on my to-do list. I hopped up and put the tea kettle on for my warm lemon water, which I had about an hour before my breakfast juice.
Breakfast
For day 16 of this 30-day juice fast, I had a pineapple needing to be used up so that’s what I juiced for breakfast.
Pineapple, Chopped

100% Pineapple Juice

Diluted Pineapple Juice
(About 60% juice, 40% water)

Pineapple Popsicles!

I had enough pineapple juice to fill up my Amazing Grass cup, my E3 Live cup (love both of ‘em!) and also make pineapple pops for snacks. Oh, and there was still a little dab in the juicing machine cup and I drank it straight up!
About mid-morning, I also had a glass of water with organic apple cider vinegar.
E3 Live
(My morning shot of E3 Live green goodness!)

Lunch & Dinner
As the day progressed, I really felt just blah and exhausted. I have been expecting a day like this, honestly. I’ve had several fantabulous, high-energy days and I knew one of these “off days” would hit soon. I could really feel my body go into a deeper level of healing/cleansing today. Whew! What a day!
Since I wasn’t feeling all that great, I decided to juice my dinner at lunch time so I wouldn’t have to drag out the juicer and clean it all up again later this evening. So that’s what I did. I compiled the following ingredients, doubling them so I’d end up with enough juice…
Juicy Concoction

1 whole cucumber, peeled (because it wasn’t organic)
2 apples, whole
3 small beets
3 ounces alfalfa sprouts
2 – 1-inch ginger pieces (peel and all)
whole lemon (peel and all)
14 (heirloom, organic) Rainbow Chard leaves (from my garden)
15 (heirloom, organic) beet leaves (from my garden)
Psychedelic Swirls

Raw Beauty

This juice was SO DELICIOUS! I love my beet juice!! And the ginger came through in each taste so nicely. LOVED it!!!
This afternoon, I enjoyed one of the pineapple popsicles I made. I enjoyed the fresh air while I was at it.
Snack: Pineapple Pop

New Books for Review/Contest!

And guess what came in the mail the other day: books by Dr. Bruce Fife!!! I’m really excited about this. Dr. Fife was impressed by my interest in natural medicine, particularly oil pulling and he also wanted me to review his coconut water book. And that means an upcoming contests because he sent one of each for me and one of each to give away!!! Yay!!! Thanks so much, Dr. Fife!! We appreciate it!!
As soon as I’ve had time to thoroughly read each book, I’ll post an honest, complete review of each and host a contest for each book (probably as a combo gift set).
And, of course, I had a glass of my lunch juice for dinner and loved every single sip. Beets have superpowers, in my opinion!
Today was still a good day, even though I didn’t feel all that great. I know this because I have to take the bad with the good and realize that my body is doing what it needs to do to cleanse, heal, and rejuvenate.
Tomorrow is day 17! Totally crazy! See you tomorrow evening for a recap of tomorrow’s juicy events!
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

I can hardly believe this is day 15 of my 30-day juice fast!!
Last night I slept well again. I jumped up this morning and discovered I was out of lemon! So… no warm lemon water this morning.
I grabbed my Amazing Grass shaker cup, added some ice, a scoop of Amazing Grass Green SuperFood powder and some leftover cucumber-apple juice, and also grabbed my bottle of water with organic apple cider vinegar (a tablespoon) and left to run some errands (including picking up some lemons!).
On the way home, I stopped at that Amish produce stand again and bought some more beets (forgot to take a photo of ‘em this time–sorry!) and then came home….
Lunch
After a busy morning, I decided to drink more of my cucumber-apple juice (it’s so refreshing!!!) and added another (yes, a second scoop for today!) of Amazing Grass Green SuperFood powder. I decided to drink my grass outside.

Dinner Concoction

1 apple
1 celery stalk
1 nob ginger
1 handful spinach
1 handful parsley
5 (heirloom) rainbow chard leaves (from my garden)
4 (heirloom) beet leaves (from my garden)
2 small beets (from an Amish produce stand)
Looks Like Sherbet Juice!

Yum-O!

I had drank half of that juice when I realized I hadn’t taken a photo of it! I was getting ready to start this blog post so I just snapped a photo at the laptop.
It was a beautiful, rich color and the taste was simply divine!
And a Winner!
It’s awesome to finally be able to find out which lucky reader wins the Living Tree Community contest (a 16 ounce jar of Coconut Mango Persimmon Butter AND an 8 ounce jar of Raw Almond Butter–both organic!!)
I used Random.org to select a winner. There was a whopping 164 comments (whoa!) and it generated the #10….

I had a little trouble going to sleep last night, but once I drifted off I slept blissfully and woke up rested and rarin’ to go!!
And I totally forgot to mention yesterday that I got to meet 2 young ladies from Wales! They had the cutest, most awesome, Welsh accent. It was just the coolest thing ever. I have never had the opportunity to meet anyone who was from Wales so it was such a special treat! Here’s one of them playing the guitar (she gave me permission to take her photo):
Friend from Wales

How awesome is that??!! So fun!!
Breakfast
This morning began with warm lemon water (1/2 a lemon in a cup of hot water). I normally have a raw juice between 30 minutes to an hour later but this morning, I was in the mood for a juice. I just wasn’t craving it. So, instead, I drank a tall glass of water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar .
Lunch
Lunch was hilarious. My Mom was making plates of salad for everyone who was here today and she made a plate for me–to juice! LOL So, I did.
Salad

(a little of each of the following)
chopped tomato (from a friend’s garden)
cauliflower
sliced cucumber
heirloom lettuce leaves (from my garden)
heirloom onion, chopped (from my garden)
sliced yellow bell pepper
sliced celery
Salad in a Glass
(Filled up a little more than half of my Amazing Grass cup)

After I took this photo, I added a scoop of Amazing Grass Green SuperFood powder. This juice was actually very delicious and satisfying!
(Just click on the photo below to find out how AMAZING this powder is!!
)
Pickling Cucumbers

These are actually pickling cucumbers that weren’t picked soon enough and grew too big to pickle.
These are still good for eating/juicing, though. Sometimes they have a bitter taste; sometimes they don’t.
Cucumber Juice

I ended up with more than this amount because the juice turned out bitter.
So to try to remedy the not-so-pleasant taste, I added 3 apples. That gave me 3 cups of cucumber-apple juic + a tall glass for me to drink right away. Weird combo, I know, but it worked out!
Cucumber-Apple Juice

Yum-O!
And that was it for day 14. I made sure to drink plenty of water and also had herbal tea with lemon. Tomorrow means this 30-day juice fast is already half over! Sheesh. Has it been 2 weeks already?
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you: I won a contest!! Eeeeek!! Kristin over at Iowa Girl Eats recently had a contest and I won the Grand Prize!!!

Happy Father’s Day!
First, I want to say I’m so thankful for a great Dad!! And I’d like to wish all those great dad’s out there a very blessed, safe, and HAPPY Father’s Day!! Also, if you’re a single Mom, today’s your day too–kudos to you for being both parents!!!
And… for those of you who don’t have a Dad today, my heart aches for you, you’re in my heart and prayers!!
Details
Day 6 of this 30-day juice fast has been another fantabulous day! I’m sooooooooo excited. I love days like this when everything seems so “right”, mind, body, and soul: I’ve felt energetic, am not hungry at all, and I’ve felt so much mental clarity/sharpness today!!
Breakfast/Snack
Again, I started my day off with lemon water (recipe here) and then reached for a carrot-spinach-sprout juice. I was still craving more juice (and feeling just a tad bit tired) so I had some of the “brown” juice–which is only brown due to the beets mixing with the greens.
I then had water with organic apple cider vinegar. A little later, I had a glass of herbal tea with lemon.
Almost forgot! I had my daily tablespoon of E3 Live (straight up).
Juice Fasting on a Holiday
This is where sacrifice comes in. It isn’t always easy to fast or juice fast right on through holidays or special occasions. July 4th is also coming up–I know I’ll be juice fasting through that event as well. So, while my family enjoyed this…
Father’s Day Meal
(Salmon cake, cooked (mixed) greens, corn on the cob with sea salt)

(The greens: turnip greens, heirloom rainbow chard, heirloom beet greens)
Dessert
(Mandarin orange cake with crushed pineapple frosting)

My Lunch
(Of course, I’ve had the above meal–and dessert– before, so I know how delicious it is. I kept to my juice fasting regimen and enjoyed a green juice with Amazing Grass Wheat Grass.)

Yum-O!

Amazing Grass
Let me just say, I know why the company named themselves: Amazing Grass–this Wheat Grass of theirs is truly AMAZING! I loooooooooooove how it makes me feel. I definitely (highly!) recommend it. I love the packets because you could carry them in your purse (or pocket for those who don’t carry purses, and for the guys) and pop it in water, a smoothie, or juice wherever you are.
Snack
No snack juice today–the Wheat Grass packet in my green juice is really keeping me happy. I’ve had more herbal tea and water (of course).
Dinner
For dinner, I’m planning either a brown or a green juice. Haven’t decided yet. I love them both! Decisions, decisions.
I’ll update when I decide.
Is it the Juice Fast???
So far today, TWO people have told me I look SIXTEEN! Is it the juice fast?

Day 5 has been fantabulous! I’ve felt energetic, happy, and very much at peace. No headaches, no emotional detox symptoms–just a smooth sailing day. Yay!
I’m afraid it’s been such a wonderful day that I forgot to take any photos! I’ve just been “in the moment” today and didn’t even think about my camera!
Why the title?
Some of you have questioned my decision to freeze my juices. I have never done this before. I mentioned in day one’s post that freezing the juices is a first for me. I am the #1 fan of drinking raw juices the instant they splash out of the juicer. Why? I believe (as do so many others) that the most of the juices’ nutrients are the strongest, most alive, and most beneficial as soon as they’re juiced–not a few days after.
So, are my juices beneficial to me during this 30-day juice fast–even though most of them are being frozen and not consumed right away? At this point, the way my body is reacting… I’d say absolutely! No, the juices may not be 100% alive. They may have lost a little nutrient value, but they haven’t lost enough that I can’t feel their health benefits. Today proved that for me. Each juice I drank rushed through my body and I felt rejuvenated with each sip. I know my frozen juices (and the ones in my fridge) are beneficial to my body.
It seems a lot of folks are torn on this one. Some say it’s okay to freeze it; others say it’s a no-no; others say don’t even store it in the fridge. What’s a Raw Juice Girl to do?! Keep on keepin’ on, that’s what.
In other circumstances, I’d drag out the juicer and each juice I consumed would be freshly juiced, drank right away. But I’m not in those circumstances, and this is what’s working for me.
And I keep forgetting to mention: I’ve juice fasted for years–anywhere from 1 day to 52 days. I’ve been on 30-day juice fasts before so this isn’t new to me. The only thing different this time is that I a)am freezing juices and b)am sharing it with the world.
Breakfast
Today started out with lemon water, like always. Half an hour later or so (I’m going to explain this in an upcoming post), I had 12 ounces of delicious apple juice. It was a very nice breakfast!
Snack
After my morning juice, I had a glass of water with organic apple cider vinegar. (I drink this every day whether I’m eating or on a juice fast–I have for years.) I also had a tablespoon of E3 Live (straight up).
Lunch
For lunch, I enjoyed 12 ounces of the carrot-spinach-sprout juice. After that, I had a glass of herbal tea with lemon.
Snack
I had a brown juice. (Yes, a brown juice! In case you missed it in the previous post, it’s because the beets and greens mixed to create a mucky brown-colored juice. Still tasty, though!)
I planted some heirloom spinach and although I didn’t feel weak or weird or anything, I craved another juice! I was in the hot sun so I decided I deserved it. I treated myself to another carrot-spinach-sprout juice. I also had 2 glasses of herbal tea with lemon and water, of course. What? It was hot out there!
This photo wasn’t taken today (and only a portion of the garden is visible–so now you know why I didn’t take photos of my juices today!).

Yesterday in the garden.
We’ve had so much rain here, some of our seeds were washed away twice!
Dinner
I ended my day with another brown juice and more water. I really feel the nutrients racing through my veins. This juice was a great way to end a fantabulous day!
