Hi, y’all! I’m pretty nervous but there’s always a first time for everything, right? And I decided that today was as good a time as any to publish my first-ever YouTube video!
I realize the quality (lighting, really) is weird. I’m not sure why. I did sit near a window in hopes that would help – but it seemed to only make it weirder when the sun went behind the clouds!
Oh, and this video length is 10 minutes! I thought 10 minutes would be really hard to reach – apparently, I’m a chatterbox on video just like in real life. *giggles*
And if you want to subscribe so you don’t miss future posts, here’s my channel on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/RawJuiceGirl
Thanks for watching!
Contest Alert
As promised in the video, here are the links to the two contests I mentioned:
Averie Sunshine, over at Love Veggies & Yoga, is giving away a 2 pound bag of chia seeds!
And don’t forget about the contest I currently have running. The winner receives a 4.5 ounce container of pure, raw, eco-friendly, organic clay mask. The contest is sponsored by Lisa Ann Turkel, owner of ShimmerOrganics.
Video Advice
Feel free to share any tips you might have so I can make future videos better for you!

Remember a while back when I shared Eli’s story with you? You know, the young guy pictured below? The inspiring fellow with a heart of gold – yet a heart that wouldn’t work correctly?
Well… I have a fantabulous update to share with you!
Juicer for Eli
First of all, a juicer was anonymously – and very generously – purchased for Eli by one of YOU not long after I posted about his situation. What a blessing!!!
The juicer made it safely to Eli’s family and they’ve been juicing for him non-stop ever since. And… Eli is getting stronger!!!
Enthusiastic Eli
I know a friend of the family and she keeps me posted on Eli’s progress as often as she can.
Here’s the latest:
"He’s been through the mill, testing wise, but is finally coming out of it. He had to have a bone marrow tap three weeks ago and the results aren’t fully in yet – but so far, so good. His echo has shown quite a bit of improvement over the one done last month. He has also been able to keep his blood cell counts up.
This is AFTER receiving the juicer and juicing DAILY.
He will get to go home for Christmas, pending his heart cath on the 22nd. Eli is telling everyone: Never give up and always look for the positive in every situation. When the road gets rough, stand your ground and fight!"
The family friend also says:
"And Eli wants that passed along. He is truly thankful and can’t wait to feel even better as time progresses."
Isn’t that RAWsome?!
The healing benefits of raw juices are AMAZING! Those fresh juices Eli’s family is making for him is helping to strengthen his weak, little body. It’s such a JOY to know that Eli is most likely going to have the opportunity to wake up on Christmas morning in his own bed, in his own home!!!
And even through the most difficult times of his little life, Eli has a positive attitude. What a precious soul he is!
My heart and prayers are with Eli’s family, friends, and Eli himself…
And, in honor of Eli’s courage and determination, I leave you with a few of his words that touched me the most:
“When the road gets rough,
stand your ground and fight!”
Amen, Eli! Amen!!!!
Latest Update (as of 12/24/09)
“"Eli’s Cath went GREAT yesterday so he is FREE for the next 2 1/2 weeks!" He is home with his brother and Dad for the holidays!”
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ELI AND HIS FAMILY!!! AND MY 2010 BE THEIR YEAR OF ABUNDANT HEALING AND HEALTH!!!!!
A lot of us take our healthy heart for granted. We get up each morning, go about our day-to-day lives, and don’t even give a thought to how our hearts – or any other part of our bodies – are working properly, allowing us to live carefree and healthy lives.
Eli isn’t as blessed. He’s living with his third heart – and he is still struggling to stay here on this beautiful planet!

My friend actually knows Eli personally.
Following is a snippet of what she knows about Eli’s condition:
“Eli’s second heart came eight months after his birth. That heart lasted him quite some time, but his body went through late rejection and he was put back on the transplant list and his third heart arrived not-so-long ago. Along with this heart transplant, Eli has undergone radiation to wipe out his lymph system and help prevent rejection later down the road. This process has really left Eli not feeling up to par.”
Donation Drive
She has taken it upon herself to host a drive focused on raising enough money to purchase a new, eco-friendly juicing machine for Eli.

She’s on a mission! She wants to help Eli have the opportunity every child should have, without even giving it a thought – to be home for the holidays.
This fantabulous boy has endured more than one heart transplant and has spent entirely too much time in the hospital, at doctors’ offices, and in various treatments. If his health doesn’t improve; if his immune system is still too weak, he may have to stay in the hospital a lot longer than originally anticipated. And this means he may not get to be home for the holidays. As an adult, I can’t imagine being in the hospital during the holidays. From a child’s point of view…. I can’t even fathom. It’s heartbreaking!

This new juicer will allow Eli to enjoy unlimited raw juices that will not only overflow his cup with nutrition and health, but his heart and life with joy and time spent at home, like a boy should be. It’s Mysti’s desire (and my own) that we search our hearts and start thinking about holiday gifts a little early, so that a sweet boy can sit at his family’s table for Thanksgiving fellowship and wake up on Christmas morning in the warmth and comfort of his own bed, in his own room, with his own belongings.
Hope for Health
If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you know I’ve battled for my own health. Raw juices have been instrumental in my healing process, and that’s why I started this site – to share hope and healing through raw foods and juices. What do you say? Let’s help Eli get a new juicer so he can enjoy fresh, raw juices and a stronger immune system.
Let me know if you’d like to be a part of Eli’s journey to new and improved health!
Hopefully, he’ll be fishing again and enjoying the outdoors like he was here….

Breaking a juice fast is pretty easy to do–if you focus on the actual process and don’t go crazy over the fact that it’s time for you to eat again. You don’t want to undo all your hard work, dedication, and cleansing you’ve just accomplished from your juice fast, do you? So, keep that in mind when the aroma of a cheeseburger or pizza slaps you in the face, okay? Okay, good.
First, I want to address an issue some of you may have when you’re actually in the middle of your juice fast. You may feel like it’s all happening too fast, like your body is on toxic overload and can’t rid itself of the toxins as fast as your cleanse is making it happen. Maybe you travel a lot or work a lot of hours and you just don’t have time to feel those detox symptoms as strongly as you are.
Here’s a tip…
Two foods that gently slow the effects of detox while juice fasting:
Avocado
Banana

So, while you may not want to completely end a fast, you can eat a small portion of banana or avocado to slow down the detox process and allow you to have a little rest from the detox symptoms. Yes, you will “wake up” your digestive system a little by nibbling on a banana or avocado but this is a mild way to find relief from, say a headache or achy flu-like feelings that often come with a juice fast cleanse (for some people).
Remember, I’m not telling you to eat 10 bananas or avocados in some crazed oh-my-gosh-my-mouth-met-food-again frame of mind. Be cautious, be mindful, be respectful of your decision to adhere to your juice fasting goals.
Breaking the Fast
This part of the fast is a personal preference, I believe, but let’s see if I can give you some ideas.
A great way, I’ve learned, to break a juice fast is by eating some fresh fruit. A small portion will be enough. I can’t stress enough that you need to think with your tummy and not your brain when breaking a juice fast. Here’s where your preference comes in: Maybe your favorite fruit is banana or apple or a peach. Whatever it is, have that. Pineapple is another great choice. (Raw) fruit is loaded with enzymes that’ll really help your system start to get used to real food again.
I’ve heard of people sipping hot veggie broth during (and to break) a fast. Honestly, I tried both of those and really don’t prefer broth at all during or breaking a juice fast.
Some other ways to break a juice fast:
- a smoothie
- raw veggies (if you must, but they’re harder on the digestive system than enzyme-rich fruits)
You can also eat pulp (with or without the juice).
I’ve found that the simpler I make it coming off a fast, the easier it is. For example, instead of going wild and making a fruit salad from every fruit you can find, just stick with one (or two, if you must).
Add more veggies, and then raw nuts, seeds, and if you eat dairy or meat, etc., be sure to add those (in moderation and hopefully organic, of course) after at least a few days of enjoying fresh, raw, living foods.
Enjoy the Process
This is the most important tip of all, I think! If you enjoy the process of breaking your fast in a healthy way, you’ll probably end up wanting to embark on another juice fast in the future. Take time to savor each taste of fresh fruits and veggies on those first few days after the fast has ended–and forever! Your body–and your taste buds–will thank you.

I can’t believe this is day 3 of my yoga adventures and I’m still excited about it–I LOVE it!
This morning, I did the video called Yoga for Yummy Abs by Polly from Yoga is Yummy.
I did the cobra pose, too! Fantabulous, people!
I was hesitant to try a different video. I’m trying to be very careful with my (bad) back. But, while I could really feel the yoga poses and stretches burning and using my muscles, it was a good, warm burning and relaxing experience. I’m just madly in love with yoga!
After my date with yoga, I had breakfast:
Blueberry-Kiwi Salad

1 whole kiwi, peeled + sliced
handful frozen blueberries
Yum-O!
I also had some herbal tea and, of course, added a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar to one of my glasses of water.
About mid-morning, I had my daily shot….
E3 Live Brain On

I think the Brain On formula tastes just a little stronger (or a little different) than the original E3 Live I’ve tried but it’s definitely do-able for me. You could always disguise the taste (if it’s too strong–aka green–for you) in a smoothie or juice. I just take a tablespoon straight up. What? I love my greens–and I’m lovin’ how it makes me feel: clear-minded and mentally alert!
Juicy Ingredients!

4 small heirloom organic beets, with leaves (from my garden)
3 organic carrots
2 heirloom organic cucumbers (from my garden)
small apple
2 handfuls spinach
handful Alfalfa sprouts
1-inch piece of ginger
medium heirloom organic bell pepper (from my garden)
1 whole kiwi, peeled
Raw Beauty!

Juice Pulp
(Looks Like Confetti!)

Yummy Juices

Raw Lunch

1 celery stalk, cut up
1 carrot, cut up
shaker cup full of today’s juicy concoction
+ a scoop of berry flavored Amazing Grass SuperFood powder
(To learn more about this berry-licious superfood powder, click on the photo below!
)

Snack
I had another carrot and another celery stalk (I was craving carrots and celery today! LOL)
And…. some of the juiciest, most delicious…
Organic Cherries

Dinner
I thought about having my other juice in the place of my dinner but then I had an overwhelming craving for the following spinach-based salad. I absolutely adore baby spinach leaves–they’re my favorite veggie! I love them raw, in juices, in smoothies, in salads… you get my point.
Oh-So-Good Salad

generous handful of baby spinach leaves
heirloom organic cucumber slices (from my garden)
generous handful of fresh blueberries
Manitoba Harvest hemp seeds (Yum!)
2 stalks heirloom organic okra, sliced
Have you ever eaten okra raw? It’s delicious! I’m serious! The above combo is absolutely YUM! What’s your favorite salad combo? Do share!
Coming next: various foods I’ve eaten when breaking other juice fasts I’ve been on, and also why I don’t incorporate vegetable broth into my juice fasting regimen like some juice fasters do.

And here we are: day 26 of my 30-day juice fast!
This morning, I drank my warm lemon water. I wasn’t craving juice at all so I went with my feelings and skipped the breakfast juice.
I did have some water with organic apple cider vinegar.
Snack
I livened up my brain with E3 Live‘s Brain On (I took a tablespoon straight up)!
Lunch + Dinner
I had a TON of freshly cut heirloom lettuce from my garden to use up, so I thought I’d use it as the base for today’s juice.
Heirloom Lettuce Concoction

2 small cucumbers
1 medium tomato (from a friend’s garden)
3 strawberries
2 carrots
2 handfuls spinach leaves
5 big handfuls heirloom lettuce (from my garden)
1 green apple
5 stalks celery
a 1-inch piece of ginger root
Heirloom Rainbows!

Amazing (Grass) Green Goodness

(Made about 40 ounces: enough to fill up a 3-cup container + my Amazing Grass shaker cup)
I added a scoop of Amazing Grass Green SuperFood (Natural) powder. This juice tasted REALLY green, with a hint of spicy gingerness–and I LOVED it! I’m going to make it again!
(To learn more about this AMAZING green superfood–or to purchase your own–click on the photo below!)

Day 25… Sounds crazy, eh? It’s amazing to me that I’ve made it this far on this 30-day juice fast, considering that I’ve plowed right on through a broken juicer + my back going out on me and the pain zapping my strength.
I drank my warm lemon water first thing this morning.
Breakfast
I felt like having a cantaloupe juice with a scoop of berry flavored Amazing Grass SuperFood powder.
(Crave that amazing feeling? Click on the photo below to find out how you can!)
I saved you the agony of a photo of my cantaloupe juice because it was slimy (that’s never happened before!!) and the Amazing Grass powder clumped up and it was disgusting looking! I had to throw it out–and believe me, I can’t stand being wasteful!
Since my cantaloupe juice was out, I drank some of the beet concoction I made yesterday with a scoop of the berry flavored Amazing Grass powder.
Snack
I usually have my daily dose of E3 Live mid-morning, so when I looked in the fridge and noticed that my weekly portion of thawed E3 Live was used up, I decided to give the E3 Live Brain On a try. (I’ll be reviewing the E3 Live and E3 Live Brain On in upcoming posts–and there’s a contest coming for it, too!)
E3 Live, Brain On!

E3 Live has to be kept frozen to maintain its freshness. Each week (according to the directions), I take it out of the freezer and defrost it a little by sitting it in a bowl of hot water. After a few minutes, I pour a few tablespoons in a small glass jar and put the lid on and keep that in the fridge. It’s recommended to only keep about a week’s worth in the fridge at once. Keep the rest frozen. I prefer my E3 Live as a dose by itself–it really does make me feel alive! I can’t wait to see how/if this Brain On enhances my mental clarity and memory.
I also had some water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar in it.
Lunch + Dinner
I enjoyed some herbal tea with lemon and wasn’t hungry so I didn’t have a lunch juice. For dinner, I had another of my beet concoction juices and called it a day.
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

Like always, I drank my warm lemon water first thing this morning, day 24 of this 30-day juice fast.
Breakfast
I felt like having cucumber juice for breakfast. I added a scoop of berry flavored Amazing Grass SuperFood powder to it.Yum!
(To find out just how berry-licious this superfood powder is, click on the photo below!)

Amazing (Grass) Cucumber Juice

All Shook Up!

Snack
Mid-morning: After breakfast, I drank some herbal tea. I also had a shot of E3 Live and a glass of water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar.
Lunch + Dinner
I juiced some leftover cantaloupe so it wouldn’t go to waste.
Cool Cantaloupe

(Made about 3 cups. It was about 3/4 juice and 1/4 water.)
Heirloom Rainbow

1 big (heirloom) beet (from my garden)
several (heirloom) beet tops (from my garden)
heirloom lettuce (from my garden)
small (heirloom) bell pepper (from my garden)
4 organic carrots
huge bunch parsley
2 pieces ginger root (approx. 1 inch each)
5 celery stalks
Kinda Mucky Looking

The beet concoction made 3 cups. I diluted it 50/50 and ended up with 6 cups.
Ready to Drink!

Note to self: If I make this beet concoction again, I’ll remember that it included a LOT of lettuce and does NOT need to be diluted. It tasted very bland and just wasn’t fun to drink!
(I added a splash of cantaloupe juice to jazz it up a little.)
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

Day 23 of my 30-day juice fast was another rough one with my back, so I didn’t even take any photos of my juices (Sorry!
)
I did follow my normal “routine” of drinking warm lemon water as soon as I woke up….
Breakfast
I had some leftover watermelon juice from yesterday, so I drank that as my breakfast juice + I added a scoop of berry flavored Amazing Grass SuperFood powder.
(Want to feel AMAZING? Click on the following photo to learn how!)

Snack
My mid-morning snack was more watermelon juice (flushing my kidneys, yay!). I also drank some water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar.
Lunch
I felt truly refreshed as I sipped cucumber juice at lunch time. And I had my daily shot of E3 Live, which truly makes me feel aLIVE!
Snack
For my mid-afternoon snack, I finished off the last of the Amish-grown cabbage concoction (recipe here).
Dinner
I ended day 23 with another refreshing glass of cucumber juice, which is absolutely one of my favorite juices in the world!
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

Day 22 of this 30-day juice fast started out with warm lemon water.
Breakfast
I had some leftover watermelon (from the 4th of July and my Dad’s birthday picnic) so I thought I should use it up and not let it go to waste. It was half of a watermelon, and I juiced the rind, seeds, and all.
Watermelon is soooooooooooo healthy for us! It contains the following vitamins: C, A, B6, B1. It also provides antioxidants, lycopene, magnesium, and potassium.
“Watermelon is not only great on a hot summer day, this delectable thirst-quencher may also help quench the inflammation that contributes to conditions like asthma, atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer, and arthritis.”–WH Foods
Watermelon may also protect against macular degeneration. How cool and refreshing is that information??!!
Watermelon Tower

Watermelon Juice

I ended up with 6 cups of watermelon juice + enough to fill my Amazing Grass shaker cup, which I added a scoop of berry flavored Amazing Grass SuperFood powder to.
AMAZING (Grass) Watermelon

All Shook Up!

Yum!
(For more AMAZING information on this superfood powder, click on the photo below and read all about it!)
Snack
For a snack, I had my daily shot of E3 Live and a glass of water with organic apple cider vinegar.
Lunch
I enjoyed a(nother!) yummy glass of watermelon juice for lunch… I added a scoop of the berry flavored Amazing Grass powder for some extra oomph.
I also had a lot of cucumbers to use up so cucumber juice, it was! I (for some crazy reason) forgot to count how many cucumbers I used for this juice recipe. (I’m thinking maybe it was 5-7 of ‘em???)
Cucumbers are good for you:
“The flesh of cucumbers is primarily composed of water but also contains ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and caffeic acid, both of which help soothe skin irritations and reduce swelling. Cucumbers’hard skin is rich in fiber and contains a variety of beneficial minerals including silica, potassium and magnesium.”–WH Foods
Besides those yummy benefits, cucumbers are great for your skin, (may) help lower your blood pressure, and contain vitamins C, A, and folate and fiber. They also provide tryptophan–and they taste sooooooooooooooooooooooo delicious when they’re juiced!
Cucumber juicing tip:
When juicing cucumbers, you’ll want to remove the peel IF you’ve bought non-organic cucumbers that have been waxed. If they’re organic, leave that peel on–it’s very beneficial!
Juicy Cucumbers

Bubbling Juice

A(LIVE) Cucumber Juice

I ended up with 3 cups of cucumber juice + my E3 Live shaker cup full, which I enjoyed as an afternoon snack. Delish!
Dinner
A refreshing watermelon juice ended day 22 for me. SO tasty! And I enjoyed it with some fresh air, outside.

WH Foods (cucumber benefits)
Day 21 started out as a day to wind down from the events of the weekend. With July 4th celebrations and my dad’s birthday + my back being out of commission, I was exhausted.
Time to rejuvenate!
Warm lemon water to the rescue….
Breakfast
Apple juice with a scoop of Amazing Grass Green SuperFood powder was my breakfast juice of choice.
Apple + Amazing Grass

Later in the morning, I drank some water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar added and had my daily dose (a tablespoon) of E3 Live (this really makes me feel aLIVE!).
Lunch
I chugged down a refreshing cucumber juice for lunch (forgot to take a picture–sorry!). I added half a scoop of Amazing Grass SuperFood powder because I really needed the energy boost. Amazing Grass products rock!
(Click on the photo below to find out just how rockin’ Amazing Grass products are!)

I also drank herbal tea with lemon this afternoon….
Dinner
I was still feeling really tired by dinner time + I had a bad headache and I needed to finish some writing assignments, so I added half a scoop to my dinner juice as well (leftover Amish-grown cabbage/beet concoction: recipe here).
Beet Combo + Amazing Grass

Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

Today’s juices were made in advance because day 19 of this 30-day juice fast ended up being on July 4th!
As always, I started my day with warm lemon water. I discovered in my notes that I actually didn’t write down which juices I drank on day 19. I do remember I drank different ones (apple, grapefruit, cucumber, Amish-grown cabbage concoction) (that I pre-made the day before) and I had about 6 or 7 juices that day because I was really in pain with my back and also because I was super tired, not only from the back pain, but from the company (which I truly enjoyed, but was still tired).
Since I didn’t really document specific details of my juices–or even take photos of them–because there was too much excitement going on (guitar playing, singing, laughing, talking–even horse and buggy rides, which I forgot to take pics of!!) I will show you all the stuff I did NOT consume….
Flag Cupcake Cake

Pineapple Upside Down Cake

Buffalo Burger Toppings

Organic, Barbecued Buffalo Burgers

Plates and Drinks

Old-Fashioned Lemonade

Burger Station

Chips, Dip, Cake, Watermelon, Cantaloupe!

There was also veggie burgers, corn on the cob, fried yellow squash, fried green tomatoes, and ice cream (which I forgot to take photos of–sorry!).
I also had my daily shot of E3 Live, a glass of water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar, and some herbal tea with lemon. And I had 2 scoops of Amazing Grass SuperFood powder in a couple different juices that day because I was just really exhausted. I was in great company, though, and had some super awesome conversation! The gals I met from Wales last week was at the barbecue too so we talked about all sorts of stuff. I learned that Wales is a subsidiary country of England and that chemical/man-made ingredient lists labels are banned from foods sold over there. Isn’t that healthy and cool?!
I hope your 4th was as safe and blessed as mine was!
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

Hi, y’all! I’ve missed you!!
I’m working on getting caught up on posting details about my 30-day juice fast. As I mentioned in the previous post, I fell behind because of back pain. Let me tell you, I’d have sailed right on through this juice fast without a problem (as I have many times before) if it hadn’t been for that back pain zapping my strength. It has really, really taken it out of me!
My Mom (who I feel is the fasting Queen) even suggested I go ahead and break the fast early because the back pain was taking so much out of me. I’ve told you before just how stubborn I am, so if a broken juicer wasn’t going to hinder this 30-day juice fast, you know a bad back wasn’t going to make me stop after making it 17 days!! So, I did what I had to do: I stepped away from the blog and focused on the fast–and it worked! Today is day 26 and I’m still juice fasting. The back pain has become easier to cope with and I’m feeling a lot stronger.
I will say that since I gave you the details on day 17, days 18 through 24 I really didn’t sleep well at all. Last night I slept much, much better and feel a lot more rested and refreshed today. Yay!
Note: Although I haven’t blogged daily the past few days, I have kept pretty good notes on each day’s juicing events. So, let’s get caught up, shall we?!
Morning, day 18
Lemon water was first on my mind (as always!)
After that, I got busy making up various juices to have on hand for the next day (which was July 4th and we were having several people over to the house). I started with day 18 breakfast juice: 100% apple juice!
Plate of Apples

6 apples, chopped
(Made 3 cups + my Amazing Grass shaker cup full)
Tasty 100% Apple Juice

While caught my breath and thought about which juice concoctions I’d create, I sipped my yummy apple juice. When it was gone, I cleaned my Amazing Grass shaker cup and started making more juice.
Next up: 100% grapefruit juice.
I forgot to take photos of the 3 grapefruits I used and had already poured a serving into my Amazing Grass shaker cup (so I’d have it to grab for my lunch juice) before I remembered to take a photo. I ended up with 3 cups of grapefruit juice and the following photo is what was left in the container after I poured my shaker cup full. (I also forgot to take a photo of the shaker cup filled with grapefruit juice… guess the back pain was getting to my brain!
)
Grapefruit Juice = Delish!

Cucumbers for Juicin’

I can’t remember for sure because I forgot to count them, but I believe I juiced 5 or 6 cucumbers to make my cucumber juice….
100% Cucumber Juice

Amish-Grown Cabbage Concoction

2 handfuls parsley
3 handfuls spinach leaves
2 small beets
5 (skinny) carrots
2 chunks ginger (about 1 inch or so each)
almost a whole bundle of celery
rest of the Amish-grown cabbage (it was HUGE!)
Gorgeous, Swirly Colors!

Snack
While cleaning up, I had a shot (a tablespoon) of E3 Live and and sipped on a glass of water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar.
Lunch + Dinner
For some reason, I forgot to write down which juices I drank the rest of the day on day 18!! If I remember correctly, though, I do believe I had a cucumber juice for lunch and the Amish-grown cabbage concoction for my dinner juice. And I know I put a scoop of Amazing Grass Superfood (All Natural) powder in my lunch juice.
(Just click the photo below to learn more about this AMAZING product!!)
I also (of course) drank water and herbal tea.
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

I slept really well again last night. I woke up this morning feeling very refreshed and thinking about everything on my to-do list. I hopped up and put the tea kettle on for my warm lemon water, which I had about an hour before my breakfast juice.
Breakfast
For day 16 of this 30-day juice fast, I had a pineapple needing to be used up so that’s what I juiced for breakfast.
Pineapple, Chopped

100% Pineapple Juice

Diluted Pineapple Juice
(About 60% juice, 40% water)

Pineapple Popsicles!

I had enough pineapple juice to fill up my Amazing Grass cup, my E3 Live cup (love both of ‘em!) and also make pineapple pops for snacks. Oh, and there was still a little dab in the juicing machine cup and I drank it straight up!
About mid-morning, I also had a glass of water with organic apple cider vinegar.
E3 Live
(My morning shot of E3 Live green goodness!)

Lunch & Dinner
As the day progressed, I really felt just blah and exhausted. I have been expecting a day like this, honestly. I’ve had several fantabulous, high-energy days and I knew one of these “off days” would hit soon. I could really feel my body go into a deeper level of healing/cleansing today. Whew! What a day!
Since I wasn’t feeling all that great, I decided to juice my dinner at lunch time so I wouldn’t have to drag out the juicer and clean it all up again later this evening. So that’s what I did. I compiled the following ingredients, doubling them so I’d end up with enough juice…
Juicy Concoction

1 whole cucumber, peeled (because it wasn’t organic)
2 apples, whole
3 small beets
3 ounces alfalfa sprouts
2 – 1-inch ginger pieces (peel and all)
whole lemon (peel and all)
14 (heirloom, organic) Rainbow Chard leaves (from my garden)
15 (heirloom, organic) beet leaves (from my garden)
Psychedelic Swirls

Raw Beauty

This juice was SO DELICIOUS! I love my beet juice!! And the ginger came through in each taste so nicely. LOVED it!!!
This afternoon, I enjoyed one of the pineapple popsicles I made. I enjoyed the fresh air while I was at it.
Snack: Pineapple Pop

New Books for Review/Contest!

And guess what came in the mail the other day: books by Dr. Bruce Fife!!! I’m really excited about this. Dr. Fife was impressed by my interest in natural medicine, particularly oil pulling and he also wanted me to review his coconut water book. And that means an upcoming contests because he sent one of each for me and one of each to give away!!! Yay!!! Thanks so much, Dr. Fife!! We appreciate it!!
As soon as I’ve had time to thoroughly read each book, I’ll post an honest, complete review of each and host a contest for each book (probably as a combo gift set).
And, of course, I had a glass of my lunch juice for dinner and loved every single sip. Beets have superpowers, in my opinion!
Today was still a good day, even though I didn’t feel all that great. I know this because I have to take the bad with the good and realize that my body is doing what it needs to do to cleanse, heal, and rejuvenate.
Tomorrow is day 17! Totally crazy! See you tomorrow evening for a recap of tomorrow’s juicy events!
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

I can hardly believe this is day 15 of my 30-day juice fast!!
Last night I slept well again. I jumped up this morning and discovered I was out of lemon! So… no warm lemon water this morning.
I grabbed my Amazing Grass shaker cup, added some ice, a scoop of Amazing Grass Green SuperFood powder and some leftover cucumber-apple juice, and also grabbed my bottle of water with organic apple cider vinegar (a tablespoon) and left to run some errands (including picking up some lemons!).
On the way home, I stopped at that Amish produce stand again and bought some more beets (forgot to take a photo of ‘em this time–sorry!) and then came home….
Lunch
After a busy morning, I decided to drink more of my cucumber-apple juice (it’s so refreshing!!!) and added another (yes, a second scoop for today!) of Amazing Grass Green SuperFood powder. I decided to drink my grass outside.

Dinner Concoction

1 apple
1 celery stalk
1 nob ginger
1 handful spinach
1 handful parsley
5 (heirloom) rainbow chard leaves (from my garden)
4 (heirloom) beet leaves (from my garden)
2 small beets (from an Amish produce stand)
Looks Like Sherbet Juice!

Yum-O!

I had drank half of that juice when I realized I hadn’t taken a photo of it! I was getting ready to start this blog post so I just snapped a photo at the laptop.
It was a beautiful, rich color and the taste was simply divine!
And a Winner!
It’s awesome to finally be able to find out which lucky reader wins the Living Tree Community contest (a 16 ounce jar of Coconut Mango Persimmon Butter AND an 8 ounce jar of Raw Almond Butter–both organic!!)
I used Random.org to select a winner. There was a whopping 164 comments (whoa!) and it generated the #10….

…. which means Jocelyn (from Jocelyn Eats Fresh blog) won!
Here’s here comment:

I had a little trouble going to sleep last night, but once I drifted off I slept blissfully and woke up rested and rarin’ to go!!
And I totally forgot to mention yesterday that I got to meet 2 young ladies from Wales! They had the cutest, most awesome, Welsh accent. It was just the coolest thing ever. I have never had the opportunity to meet anyone who was from Wales so it was such a special treat! Here’s one of them playing the guitar (she gave me permission to take her photo):
Friend from Wales

How awesome is that??!! So fun!!
Breakfast
This morning began with warm lemon water (1/2 a lemon in a cup of hot water). I normally have a raw juice between 30 minutes to an hour later but this morning, I was in the mood for a juice. I just wasn’t craving it. So, instead, I drank a tall glass of water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar .
Lunch
Lunch was hilarious. My Mom was making plates of salad for everyone who was here today and she made a plate for me–to juice! LOL So, I did.
Salad

(a little of each of the following)
chopped tomato (from a friend’s garden)
cauliflower
sliced cucumber
heirloom lettuce leaves (from my garden)
heirloom onion, chopped (from my garden)
sliced yellow bell pepper
sliced celery
Salad in a Glass
(Filled up a little more than half of my Amazing Grass cup)

After I took this photo, I added a scoop of Amazing Grass Green SuperFood powder. This juice was actually very delicious and satisfying!
(Just click on the photo below to find out how AMAZING this powder is!!
)
Pickling Cucumbers

These are actually pickling cucumbers that weren’t picked soon enough and grew too big to pickle.
These are still good for eating/juicing, though. Sometimes they have a bitter taste; sometimes they don’t.
Cucumber Juice

I ended up with more than this amount because the juice turned out bitter.
So to try to remedy the not-so-pleasant taste, I added 3 apples. That gave me 3 cups of cucumber-apple juic + a tall glass for me to drink right away. Weird combo, I know, but it worked out!
Cucumber-Apple Juice

Yum-O!
And that was it for day 14. I made sure to drink plenty of water and also had herbal tea with lemon. Tomorrow means this 30-day juice fast is already half over! Sheesh. Has it been 2 weeks already?
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you: I won a contest!! Eeeeek!! Kristin over at Iowa Girl Eats recently had a contest and I won the Grand Prize!!!
Until tomorrow… happy juicing!

Hello, it’s day TWELVE!! Can you believe it?? I can’t! Time is just whizzing by like crazy!
Details
I didn’t sleep all that great last night. I honestly think it was because I wrote a LOT yesterday to meet deadlines and I just overworked my brain. I couldn’t shut it off last night!! That’s a good thing and a bad thing all wrapped in one when you’re a writer/blogger.
I’m feeling okay today, though!
Breakfast
As soon as I got up this morning, I headed straight for my tea kettle. I heated some water and poured it over my half of a lemon to make my usual lemon water. Half an hour after that, I had my breakfast juice…
Since I didn’t sleep all that great, I was feeling just a little lazy so instead of being creative and making a fresh juice, I drank a cup of my defrosted pineapple-strawberry juice.
Pineapple-Strawberry Juice
(In my Amazing Grass shaker cup–LOVE this thing!!!!)

Snack
E3 Live (I’m LOVING this stuff!!!) and water with organic apple cider vinegar.
Lunch + Dinner
My plan for making my lunch juice was to double the ingredients so I’d end up with enough juice for lunch and dinner later. I’m going to an early July 4th celebration tonight so I didn’t want to be messing with produce, the juicer, and cleaning up later this afternoon.
Creative Chaos!
I ALMOST forgot to take a photo of my ingredients! Some of them had already gone into the juicer. LOL There was a big pile of sprouts on top and I grabbed a handful of stuff to juice, messing that up. Also, one beet is missing from the photo and some spinach. What? I wanted my lunch!

All piled onto a plate (so you can’t see it all):
4 carrots
3 small beets
2 stalks celery
big handful parsley
2 big handfuls spinach leaves
4 kale leaves
nob ginger (about an inch)
2 small-ish apples
chunk of Amish-grown cabbage (shown here)
+ about 2 ounces of Alfalfa sprouts on top!
Raw Colors are Beautiful!!

Prepared!

A lot of folks who juice fast either freeze their juices or make up a little ahead of time (especially if you’re working outside the home) and fill jars up to the very top with the juice and then put the lids on tight. You may lose a little of the nutrients, but it’s waaaaaaaaaaayyy better than storebought juices that are filled with preservatives.
I didn’t dilute the juice that went into my Amazing Grass shaker cup but I did dilute the juice that went into those two glass jars: 50% juice/50% water.
Amazing Grass Green Superfood Powder
(Going in)

(Just click the photo below to check out this AMAZING superfood!!
)
Ready to Shake!

Amazing Grass All Shook Up!

This juice was so sweet and tasty I didn’t even taste the green Amazing Grass powder!! I sure felt the energy it gave me, though. These Amazing Grass powders are rockin’ my world–especially the wheat grass!!
Since it was juice, though, once I got near the bottom of the cup, there was some grainy action goin’ on. That was because I didn’t shake it well enough. It doesn’t bother me. I love to taste health!! I haven’t had the chance to try this powder in a smoothie yet (’cause I’m juice fasting) but I don’t think you’d notice the powder at all in a smoothie.
I’ll probably drink both of those extra juices before the end of the day. I also always, always drink plenty of water and herbal tea.
I just can’t believe tomorrow is day 13 already! It’s craziness. Today was another great day… Yay!!!

I slept pretty good last night but I’ve slept better–especially during long juice fasts. I’m feeling fine today, though!!
Breakfast
Warm lemon water is what I drank first. Half an hour or so later, I decided I’d have fresh grapefruit juice. If you’re a grapefruit lover, you’ll adore fresh grapefruit juice!
Two Grapefruits
(I peeled ‘em before juicin’)

100% Grapefruit Juice

It made about 14 ounces–all for me!!
Fantabulous!!

Snack
Instead of another juice, I had a glass of water with organic apple cider vinegar and my daily dose (a tablespoon) of E3 Live.
Lunch
I felt like switching things up for my lunch juice and I came up with a….
Cabbage Concoction

chunk of my Amish-grown cabbage (shown here)
handful of spinach
2 kale leaves
small apple
half of a lemon (peel, seeds and all)
1 carrot
1 celery stalk
nob ginger (about an inch thick)
handful of parsley
Love the Colors!

Spicy!

I actually loved the spicy flavor of this green juice but if you don’t like ginger or spicy flavors, you’ll want to leave the ginger out of this one or use way less.
Snack
No afternoon snack today. I just had some iced herbal tea with lemon.
Dinner
I sat out that container of frozen pineapple-strawberry juice from yesterday earlier today and just had a cup of that. I felt like having a simple dinner, so I did!
That’s it for day 11. And I’m happy with how it went!

I didn’t sleep that well last night but, surprisingly, I wasn’t that tired or feeling that bad this morning. It’s crazy how a juice fast keeps my energy level up–even when I don’t sleep that well. I just kept waking up for some reason!!
Breakfast
My day began (like always) with a hot cup of lemon water (more about this below in a reader’s Q & A !!
)
I was craving pineapple juice, so that’s what I made! I am loving being so in tune to my body! These longer juice fasts are so serene and holistic for me.
On to the morning juice concoction…
Pineapple, Chopped
(The whole thing except the leaves)

Yummy Pineapple Juice!

Added 6 Strawberries

+ a Scoop of Amazing Grass!

Amazing Grass Green SuperFood
(Berry flavored: Acai + Goji)

(Learn more about this amazing superfood by clicking on the picture below.)
My Breakfast!
(Don’t let the green fool you–it was berry-licious!!)

Besides my Amazing Grass shaker cup, I had enough pineapple-strawberry juice to share 3 small-ish glasses with family and store the container below (which holds 3 cups) in the freezer. I also made a few popsicles for later. Yes, you can have your juices frozen as popsicles while juice fasting!! How fun is that–especially in the summer time??!!
For Later
(I hear pineapple-strawberry juice is so yummy frozen and thawed–like a slushy!!)

After my juice, I had a glass of water with organic apple cider vinegar.
Snack
I had my daily shot (a tablespoon) of E3 Live and a tall glass of iced, herbal tea with lemon. Yum!
Lunch
For lunch, I finally decided to try the juice concoction Jenna keeps raving about. Jenna, over at Eat, Live, Run keeps talking about the following juice. And I keep forgetting to pick up ginger root at the grocery store so I haven’t been able to make it until today! I searched Jenna’s site and discovered she also plays around with her recipe. She sometimes adds cucumber or half a lemon to the recipe but I went with her original version today…
New Concoction!

2 small beets
1 green apple
2 stalks celery
1 carrot
1 nob ginger (about an inch thick)
Note: I absolutely adore how there was just a hint of ginger in each sip. It wasn’t overpowering, but it was definitely there, tickling my tongue and throat! I didn’t dilute this one. Yum!
She’s a Beauty!!
(And yummy to the tummy–just like Jenna said!! Thanks, Jenna!!!)

Snack
For an afternoon snack today, I had a homemade pineapple-strawberry popsicle (from my breakfast juice). It was sooooooooo delicious! I enjoyed this yummy treat outside.
Sweet Treat!

Dinner
Tonight’s dinner was inspired by yesterday’s lunch–but I tweaked the recipe a little to come up with…
Kale Kreations!

2 apples
2 carrots
1 small beet
2 kale leaves
handful of spinach
nob and half of ginger
few sprigs of parsley
(The recipe shows 2 carrots and 2 apples because I threw another of each in the juice after the photo just to make a little more juice.)
Rainbow Swirls!

Yummy Goodness!!
(Made 16 ounces… I didn’t dilute this one.)

Reader’s Question
Why do you drink warm/hot lemon water first thing every morning?
Answer
Lemons are loaded with goodies your bodies need such as Vitamin C and heart- and cancer-fighting compounds like limonin and limolene. I love them. I have been drinking warm lemon water each morning before breakfast for a long time now. My Mom is a HUGE advocate of lemons and we have been having them in our iced tea for oodles of years. The warm lemon water (drank on an empty stomach) helps alkalize the body, jumpstarts your liver and bowel and flushes your kidneys and bladder. It’s very cleansing to your body. Lemons boost your immune system, lower histamine levels, and help give your skin an overall healthy glow. I definitely feel less energetic and have less “umph” on days I don’t get my lemon!
Hope that helps you understand my obsession with warm lemon water.
That’s it for day 10. I can’t wait to see what the rest of this 30-day juice fast has in store for me!!

Last night, I slept really, really well. That’s one of the awesome things about juice fasts–the restful nights are superb!
And I woke up this morning feeling refreshed. I LOVE that feeling!!
Breakfast
Of course, I had my lemon water first. Then I listened to my body–it was craving apple juice! So, I got out 3 big apples and juiced ‘em up. They made 20 ounces of juice and I diluted it 50% (you don’t have to) and shared 3 glasses with family and had one myself (in my Amazing Grass shaker cup!!)
Juicing Apples for Breakfast!

Raw Apple Juice

Turkeys are Pigs!
(I gave the apple pulp to some of the critters–they LOVE it!! They’re thrilled that I’m juice fasting!
)

Snack
For a “snack”, I had a big glass of water with a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar while I rode to town with my Mom. We ran some errands and decided to make time to follow a “Fresh Produce” sign we’ve been seeing. (We do have a huge garden but some of our stuff had to be re-planted because of all the rain we’ve had here.) So, anyway, we followed the sign and discovered it was Amish farmers selling the produce. Eeeek! Here’s what I got to juice….
Amish Cabbage & Beets!
(Dirt and all! LOL)

Mom also got Dad some apple butter and some little new potatoes (no pic, sorry!)
Also, the Amish don’t believe in photos. It’s against their religion to “capture images”. They believe it captures their soul. So, I can’t disrespect them and take photos. The produce stand was so neat, though. It was inside one of their buildings and there was long wooden tables with the produce on it. There was also big baskets sitting on the floor. And, my goodness, there was soooooooooooooo many potatoes in bins!!!
Lunch
I’m trying to mix things up. (One thing I keep forgetting to mention is that when you’re juice fasting, it’s important to not drink the same juice day in and day out. Our bodies need a variety of nutrients and by switching up the fruits and veggies I’m juicing and also the combos, I have a better chance of supplying my body’s nutritional needs.)
So for lunch, I listened to my body again and this is what it told me:
Lotsa Lunch!

1 green apple
heaping handful of baby spinach leaves
4 strawberries
1 carrot
1 (Amish) beet
few sprigs of parsley
The Lunch Juice
(Isn’t that juice gorgeous???!!!)

Yum-O!
(Oh my goodness!! This juice was soooooooooo DEEEEEEEELICIOUS!!!)

My lunch juice made 16 ounces and I decided not to dilute it this time–and it was all for ME!! It tasted soooooooo refreshing and sweet and just made me feel ALIVE!!!
Snack
Today’s afternoon snack was my daily shot of E3 Live and a tall glass of herbal tea with a slice of lemon!
I also had more water with organic apple cider vinegar .
Dinner
I had another glass of iced herbal tea with lemon and about 6 ounces of green juice (from one of my frozen batches). That was the last of that green juice, I believe.
The past few days have been gardening days. Lots going on! We’re having to re-plant some stuff that didn’t make it through all the rain and storms we’ve had and we’re also trying to keep what is growing alive and weed-free–without chemicals! That is no easy task, let me tell you! Organic gardening is exhausting!!!
I paced myself, took breaks whenever I needed them–both to cool off and also to keep hydrated and drink raw juice and herbal iced tea, and lotsa water. I managed to maintain my energy and the only thing that really slowed me down was back pain (which I have suffered from for years due to domestic violence injuries).
That’s it for day 9. It was another great day!!
