1) Reader’s Question
Why do you drink warm/hot lemon water first thing every morning?
Answer
Lemons are loaded with goodies your bodies need such as Vitamin C and heart- and cancer-fighting compounds like limonin and limolene. I love them. I have been drinking warm lemon water each morning before breakfast for a long time now. My Mom is a HUGE advocate of lemons and we have been having them in our iced tea for oodles of years. The warm lemon water (drank on an empty stomach) helps alkalize the body, jumpstarts your liver and bowel and flushes your kidneys and bladder. It’s very cleansing to your body. Lemons boost your immune system, lower histamine levels, and help give your skin an overall healthy glow. I definitely feel less energetic and have less “umph” on days I don’t get my lemon!
Hope that helps you understand my obsession with warm lemon water. ![]()
2) Reader’s Question
Will juice fasting help me lose weight?
Answer
Yes, many people do lose weight while juice fasting. Like I stressed in my article for Raw People, though, losing weight isn’t at all what juice fasting is about. If you’re heavier (200 lbs and up) you may lose 30 pounds or more during a 30-day juice fast. That’s from my own research. You may even lose around that much if you’re a little under 200. And some people have lost 50 or more pounds during a 30-day juice fast. It all depends on your body, that you’re not limiting your juice intake, that it’s 100% raw juices you’re drinking–and not storebought, etc.
But if you lose weight on a juice fast and don’t transition from the fasting mode correctly and just go back to eating junk, then you’ll gain all of that weight back!! Sorry, but it’s true.
You have to target the root of why you’ve gained weight before you can successfully keep it off.
As you’ll see in the photos before, I’ve lost a significant amount of weight. I didn’t start juice fasting until I’d already lost around 50 pounds or so, but raw juices and juice fasting have been a huge part of not only my weight loss, but my maintenance.
Before & After
3) Reader’s Question
Do you eat raw meat and/or eggs?
Answer
No! I never eat raw meat or eggs. Some Raw Foodists do. I’ve read about Raw Foodists who literally consume raw meat. I’m not big on meat anyway (I’ve eaten chicken maybe 3 or 4 times in the past 4 years or so. Not only is eating meat bad for the environment and the animals themselves, it’s not great for our bodies (in my opinion) as it takes forever and a day to digest and that’s just gross to me!
4) Reader’s Question
Are you a Raw Vegan?
Answer
No, I’m not. I do prefer a high-raw, plant-based, Vegetarian lifestyle. Once in a while I’ll eat an egg or omelet (cooked, not raw!
) and I have a crazy weakness for organic Oikos Greek yogurt. I also dig into the honey jar sometimes. So, none of those things are Vegan, and I don’t claim that title. I don’t like titles anyway, but am pretty much a high-raw Vegetarian since you all wonder about that.
5) Reader’s Question
How did you lose over 100 pounds?
Answer
There isn’t enough room here to answer this question, and I’m hoping to publish a book about my weight loss journey some day, but I’ll try to sum it up for you: I began cutting out all things white (flour, bread, sugar, pasta, etc.) and also anything processed (packaged foods, soda, etc.) and consumed as many whole foods and foods as close to their natural state as possible. I wasn’t always able to afford what I knew to eat (still have trouble with that $$$ thing!
) but I tried. I did my best. And I still try to do my best. I can’t always afford organic foods. I’m sure you understand that. We have to make the best choice most of the time, the better choice as often as we can, and the other times just do the best we can and move on.
When I first began my weight loss journey, I was a meat eater. So, yes, I believe you can lose weight while eating meat. You don’t necessarily have to give it up like I did. But I still feel it’s a healthy option. I eventually became a Vegetarian and then that led to lots of raw juices and my juice fasting journey. It’s taken a LOT of dedication, sacrifice, and hard work, It didn’t happen overnight. There was no magic pill for me. But what I did worked; all of these things I’ve mentioned helped me lose over 100 pounds.
6) Reader’s Question
How long have you juice fasted?
Answer
The longest I’ve juice fasted is for 52 days. Yes, 52 days with no food–just fresh, raw juices, water, and herbal tea. That’s it. I have trained my body, though. My first juice fast was intended to be 30 days. I made it 4. I realized then that I’d have to train my body. The next juice fast I embarked on, I planned for it to be 7 days. I made it! So, if you’re new to juice fasting, plan accordingly.
7) Reader’s Question
Do you store your raw juices?
Answer
Yes, but I try not to. There are times, though, that I have no choice but to store it. I usually keep my juice in containers with tight lids in the fridge for no longer than 48 hours. I try to drink it within 24 hours, if at all possible. I sometimes freeze my juice. I got this tip from Natalia Rose’s book: Detox for Women: An All New Approach for a Sleek Body and Radiant Health in 4 Weeks.
