I’m going to be posting what my husband made for our anniversary dinner soon but here’s a sneak peek of the salad he made. I just posted it over at Mainline Gardening. Check it out: Overnight Salad – Made By My Husband!
And now on to Greek yogurt – I adore it. It’s thick, creamy, delicious, filling, and just plain GOOD! It’s also good for us.
It can be a quick snack on your way out the door or a small meal if you’re in a hurry.
Add it to smoothies, on top of fruit, top it with nuts – or nut butter. Possibilities are endless. You can add it to recipes, too!
The most recent Greek yogurt I picked up at the store is YoCrunch Greek Parfait.
Check out the YoCrunch Nutrition Page for more information.
I’m loving it!
Do you like Greek yogurt? Have you ever tried it? After trying it, I can’t go back to regular yogurt – it seems to runny for me. And Greek yogurt is so creamy, decadent, and filling…. I can’t look back!
How do you use your yogurt? In smoothies? Recipes? Or just plain out of the tub? What did you have for breakfast?

Hey, y’all! How’s your weekend going? The snow (a whole inch or so
) has melted off and it’s a really nice day. I love it when the sun shines – it makes my heart feel SO happy!
I made a strawberry smoothie in my new blender (more on that in the next post!) and it was DELISH. I was just playing around so I didn’t take any photos. I’ll be more creative and post about my smoothie adventures in the next couple of days.
I’ve received a few packages from some awesome companies – including Amazing Grass (thank you SO much, Teri!) and Bazura Bags (thanks, Larry!). I’ll post pictures of the Bazura Bags products and blender I received (from CSN Stores) soon (thank you, Jamie)!

Hi, y’all! I’ve been crazy busy on this Amish farm lately but I haven’t forgotten about ya – promise! I do have lots more reviews and giveaways coming in the near future but gardening has kept me on my toes – or shall I say knees?!
Organic gardening isn’t the easiest, in my opinion. Some people may think it is. I don’t know. But without chemicals to kill the bugs, weeds, and grass, it keeps a gardener on their toes concocting natural recipes – plus all the grass- and weed-pulling. Phew!
The funniest thing happened today: I was literally taking out the trash and as I walked was thinking “gosh, I have a crazy craving for chocolate and peanut butter” – and the UPS man backed in to the driveway with a package (I kid you not!!!!) and I thought I’d pass out when I opened it! Inside was a couple of the chocolate-covered peanut butter protein bars and the new Lemon Lime Energy Drink Powder from Amazing Grass.
So… was this fate? Karma? Luck?
Whatever the reason that I had chocolate and peanut butter delivered to me, I am a happy girl! Thank you, Amazing Grass!!!
Of course, you know I had to break right in to one of those bars immediately. It was meant to be! I only ate half, though. Why? Because it’s dense, delish, and filling!
YUM!
About the Company
I love sharing with y’all the real people who are behind the companies whose products I review. Without them, the products I love and review wouldn’t be here. I think it’s the people who make all the difference—whether it’s a big or small company. Why? Because they’re the ones who give the company character, value, and history.
So what’s the Amazing Grass story? And what’s so amazing anyway? Check this out…
From the site:
How we got started….
We started out of our garage (well it was really a dining room table) in August of 2002 in San Francisco, California. We were two guys with a desire to build a ‘grass’ roots business that aligned with our passion for the outdoors and a healthy lifestyle. We had each spent 7 years at large telecom companies and met 4 years ago at a start-up telecom company that was trying to break the bandwidth bottleneck, but ended up going broke instead. Working in a start up environment, we witnessed first hand the effect 17 hour work days, lack of exercise and poor eating habits had on many of our colleagues. Constantly hearing people say “I’m exhausted”, “I’m sick” and “I need to get in better shape” seemed to be directly related to stress and diet.
Todd noticed that Brandon seemed immune from the common cold and the contagious mid-afternoon yawn. Brandon’s thumb is the furthest shade from green, but luckily his uncle has continued to run the family dehydrating business that his Grandfather started over 50 years ago. Brandon swore the wheat grass he’d been taking gave him more energy, a stronger immune system and an overall healthier life. He gave some to Todd along with a great book by Ron Seibel called Cereal Grass, What’s in it for you. Within weeks, Todd was a big believer…he developed increased energy throughout the day and saw his need for sleep decrease. In fact, Todd has eluded everything including the common cold since taking wheat grass. Brandon had a long list of friends that were hooked on wheat grass and would often call or stop by when they ran out. His freezer was being raided on a daily basis. (We know this sounds like a scene from Cops, but we swear it was just wheat grass.)
With the help of a college marketing class at Cal Poly SLO, their wives, families and friends, Todd and Brandon started Amazing Grass.
It is our passion to educate the world about the benefits of cereal grass, green foods and the improved quality of life from eating healthy. It is our goal to always listen to our customers and constantly improve what we do. We pledge to produce the healthiest products that offer real benefits at prices everyone can afford. It’s an amazing adventure to grow this business to reflect our dreams, passions and beliefs.
Today, Amazing Grass offers the most potent green vegetables in a convenient way that aligns with our hectic lifestyles. We take great pleasure in hearing your stories about how Amazing Grass has changed your life and encourage our new friends to write us with their stories. One timeless phrase will sum up many of our responses…”You are what you eat.” Eat Grass…Get Healthy!!!

Pros
I love that it’s jam-packed with greens, nutrition, superfoods, whole foods, antioxidants, probiotics and overall health benefits. The flavor is absolutely AMAZING. I’m serious, y’all. I DO taste the peanut butter. The chocolate is DIVINE. And I really only tasted the teeniest hint of greenness. I am not even joking. These bars ROCK!
Cons
If you’re allergic to peanuts, these bars are out for you. Other than that, I really can’t think of a con here. Well, you might consider them pricey. Hi, y’all!
How are you? Fantabulous, I hope!
I’m so excited that you’re lovin’ my most recent recipes:
And if you’re a regular reader, you might remember a while back when I posted my Spiralized Veggie S’ghetti Recipe.
In that post, I mentioned I had spiralized my dessert as well: an apple, which I topped with a yummy sauce I threw together at the last minute.
You may have never thought of spiralizing your dessert but there’s a first time for everything, right?!
On to the juicy details…
Spiralized Apple Pasta with Nutty Sauce
This was a very fun dessert. It’s delicious, nutritious, fun to eat – and very easy to whip up!
Recipe follows, but as for the process….
I’ll let the photos speak for themselves…
And now for the (apple) sauce…
Hungry yet?
Spiralized Apple Pasta with Nutty Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 apple, washed
- peanut butter (or your nut butter of choice) – I’m a crunchy kind of gal.
![]()
- drizzle of honey (or other sweetener)
- splash of almond milk (or your milk of choice)
- cinnamon (and/or any other spice of your choice)
Directions:
- Spiralize your apple.
- Combine nut butter, sweetener, milk, and cinnamon (you choose the amounts, depending on your taste preferences).
- Stir until mixed well.
- You can heat your mixture or serve as-is.
- Plop it on top of your spiralized apple – and enjoy!
Note:
I tend to like things on the thicker side (oatmeal, smoothies, etc.) so I made my “apple sauce” thick. But I can totally see a runny version of this nutty sauce being yumilious, too!
Your Turn
1. Do you love nut butter smeared on apples or other fruit?
2. Have you ever spiralized an apple? Or anything at all?
3. Would you like to own a spiral vegetable slicer? If so, be watching for my review – plus a giveaway!

I admitted in my last post that I’ve never really been a huge fan of hummus. I mean, it’s okay, I can eat it, it’s good, but it’s never been something I couldn’t live without – but now I’m on a hummus kick! I’ve crossed over to the other side. LOL

You all loved my Jalapeño Hummus Recipe so much, I just had to share my sun-dried tomato hummus recipe with you. It was nice to know I’m not the only one who hasn’t always been madly in love with hummus. But I’m so glad I made this yesterday! Each bite has such a burst of flavor: I taste the sun-dried tomatoes, parsley, and garlic in every. single. bite. It tastes so fresh and delicious. I don’t mean to brag, but I’m just proud of myself for making such yummy hummus!!
And I promise review and contest posts are coming next….

Let’s Talk Revolution
How do you feel about Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution? Are you following his show? Do you know who he even is? I’ve known about him for a few years, and always enjoyed his food shows that I’ve seen. Since I first saw him on TV, I loved that he promotes fresh produce and real food. (You can read his food philosophy here.) He isn’t promoting anything outrageous – just sensible meals and snacks created from real food.
Here’s a quote from him (from his site) to better help you understand his Food Revolution Mission – in case you haven’t heard about it yet:
“I believe that every child in America has the right to fresh, nutritious school meals, and that every family deserves real, honest, wholesome food. Too many people are being affected by what they eat. It’s time for a national revolution. America needs to stand up for better food!
You live in an amazing country full of inspirational people and you have the power to change things. With your help, we can get better food into homes, schools and communities all over America and give your kids a better future.”—Jamie Oliver
Changing my habits to eating real food is how I lost over 100 pounds. So I absolutely believe in Jamie’s mission. I personally admire his courage, passion, and believe he has a genuine, soft heart. And I can’t believe how much resistance he’s been up against for this whole thing. Isn’t it amazing how so many people fight healthy eating/living?
And as I write this, there are almost 80,000 signatures on the petition Jamie plans on presenting to the White House. Would you consider signing? I’m going to I did!
Let me know your thoughts on Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution – and the sun-dried tomato hummus….

Happy weekend, y’all! Hope your weekend has been as fantabulous as mine! Nothing special going on here, but I’ve been safe, warm, happy, and hard at work trying to make this blog even better for y’all in 2010 – and beyond!!
On to the reader’s recipes…
Note: The readers featured today emailed me their recipes. I asked their permission to post them here and they gave their blessing.
From reader, Dyan
Dyan says:
“Just an avid reader of your posts, who like the rest of the world, am trying to eat healthy. A friend of mine gave me the juicer and I almost choked when I put in 1 grapefruit, 1 orange, and an apple and got one glass of juice. LOL No way could I just throw out that pulp. So I just kept freezing it until I could figure out what to do with it. I had this old dehydrator gathering dust in the basement that I had used for jerky, but that was all I had done with it. While shopping, my little girl wanted a box of fruit rollups that were 2.89 for 6 little rolls! That’s when it hit me….I had this whole arrangement of pulp at home that I would experiment with. They are what I call Frankenstein rolls. There is a little bit of everything in them. If you do a lot of juice I suppose you could keep all your pulp separate. But I throw it all in together…And you can put as much or as little sugar in it, to your liking.”
“Dyan’s Frankenstein rolls”
“My favorite thing to do is every time I juice fruit, I put the pulp in a bowl and put in the freezer.”
Instructions:
- After I have several bowls, I defrost them all and puree it in a blender with a little bit of sugar and cinnamon.
- Get it really smooth and then spread out in an even layer about 1/4 inch thick on the plastic tray.
- Dehydrate for about 8-10 hrs and you have a fruit roll-up just like you get out of the stores, but made with real fruit!
Delicious as a little healthy snack, and a great way to recycle the pulp.
Enjoy!
From reader, Kim
Kim says:
“Its impressive all the new healthy things I’m making with these tools that my picky-eater kids (ages 3 and 1) love to eat each day. I hope to make the crackers soon.
“Kim’s Fruit/Veggie Roll-Ups”
I have a new Excalibur Dehydrator and have a great fruit/veggie roll up combination my young kids LOVE!
Ingredients:
- 3 medium pears
- 2 small organic carrots
- 1/4 cup grape juice
- sliver of lemon
Instructions:
- Blend in a high powered blender (I have a Vita-Mix
)
- Spread out thin on dehydrator sheets, dehydrate at 135 for 4-6 hours
- Peel, and enjoy!
Thanks, ladies!
Have you tried any of these recipes? Or something similar? Do you have a dehydrator? Is it an Excalibur Dehydrator or some other kind? Do you own a Vita-Mix
? Or just dream of one (like me)?
If you’d like to be featured in Readers Recipes, just shoot me an e-mail and you might see your recipe featured here, at Healing with (Raw) Juices!
Mind-boggling fact!
And… here’s a mind-boggling fact of the week:
“The first-ever large-scale study of organic farming and livestock conducted by the USDA finds that organic food is a $3-billion-a-year industry.
A recent article on the coming touchscreen technology for vending machines notes that the junk food dispensers are a $30-billion-a-year industry.
Ten times as big as organic food.”

Just stopping by? Have you tried my coconut peanut butter honey overnight oats yet? Or maybe you’d like to try your hand at my chocolate-covered raisin hemp balls or raw tuna fish-less salad. And congrats to Cyn for winning my latest contest!!
This morning when I woke up, I enjoyed a delicious bowl of overnight oats. It was SO filling that noon came and went and I still wasn’t hungry for lunch!
I eventually wanted a little something and remembered I had some frozen bananas. My mindwheel started turning….
The result?
Coconut Peanut Butter Cream
Know the banana soft serve that’s swept across the blogosphere like a cyber hurricane?
Oh, yeah!
I tossed the bananas in the blender and I noticed there was some cream of coconut a family member hadn’t used up. So I threw 3 tablespoons in the blender. I’d say there was about 4 bananas in that bag.
What came out of the blender was this:
Beautiful, isn’t it?! And if that wasn’t delicious enough, I thought of the Coconut Peanut Butter that Tropical Traditions sent me!
Drizzle, Drizzle
Then… a MIRACLE
When Tropical Traditions Coconut Peanut Butter is drizzled over something cold (like banana soft serve), it hardens up!! Like the chocolate on a dip cone!!! Eeeeeekkk!!! What??!!! I was ecstatic!!!!
Dessert for Lunch
I must admit, this hemp-loving, salad-chompin’ Raw Juice Girl enjoyed every last creamy, smooth, decadent, sweet bite of her dessert for lunch. I know I’ll be having Coconut Peanut Butter Cream again soon!! YUM!!
Oh, and I only had a small portion. I shared the rest with family. Boy, were they SURPRISED at how good my banana ice cream tasted!!
For anyone wondering: The peanuts in the Coconut Peanut Butter are roasted so that isn’t raw. And the cream of coconut from that can had preservatives, so it isn’t raw either. Of course, the bananas are raw. Yippee for that!
Even though this dessert isn’t 100% raw, it SURE was yummy to the tummy!
Worried about the nutritional value of this dessert for lunch? Well, Coconut Peanut Butter Cream provides protein, fiber, potassium, and more!
What about you? Have you jumped on the raw banana soft serve bandwagon yet? What’s your favorite raw dessert? Are you going to try my Coconut Peanut Butter Cream? Tell me all about it!
Hey, y’all!
Sorry I’ve been MIA so much lately….
Those of you who follow me regularly know I had a 3-day festival this past weekend so I was super-duper busy! And for those of you who are just tuning in, I usually spend my weekends helping my mom run her booth selling herbs for her herb business.
So, anyway, I got TWO deliveries this weekend I want to tell you about!
First up: A 6-pack of Zevia soda and a cool T-shirt I won in Averie’s Zevia contest over at Love Veggies, Yoga, Running, + Chocolate. I’m SO excited to try ‘em all (I got one of each flavor they carry) and I’m totally excited to wear my green Zevia T-shirt! (Pictures are coming, promise!)
Second package: LARABAR samples! Eeeek! They sent me a few different varieties–cashew cookie, peanut butter & jelly, apple pie, and fruit and nut. Today I’m sharing the review of the cashew cookie ’cause I gobbled it up yesterday morning for breakfast. Yes, breakfast!
LARABAR

Cashew Cookie

TWO Ingredients!

YUM!

Verdict/Grade?
Let me tell you, folks, this Cashew Cookie LARABAR is DIVINE! Oh my goodness, is it EVER totally delicious and yummy and tasty and soooooooooo good for you, too! I cannot–simply CANNOT–believe that there are only TWO ingredients in this chewy, crunchy, fantabulous snack bar. I seriously could eat one every. single. day! This one definitely gets an A+ from Raw Juice Girl!
Check out the nutritional info–it’s amazing!
From the site:
“Two ingredients, one incredible flavor! The unprocessed, creamy cashews are rich in iron, zinc and B Vitamins. The chewy dates have more potassium than bananas. Together they form a bar rich in fiber with 2 grams of heart-healthy Omega-6 fatty acids and 15 essential vitamins and minerals. So much sustaining nourishment in such a simple recipe.”

How is that for a healthy snack? Thank you, LARABAR for creating this tasty treat for us!
Y’all be sure to check out www.larabar.com to see all the different flavors and combos they offer.
So, how was your weekend? Have you ever tried LARABAR? What’s your favorite flavor? Do you wish they’d create a new one? If so, spill the beans and leave some juicy comments!

First, I’d like to remind you about the current contest I have running: The Bolder Mat Company Yoga Mat + Stacy McCarthy’s Yoga DVD. (Contest ends Wednesday, August 19th. There are SEVEN ways to win!!)
For the longest, I’ve been meaning to make Angela’s raw chocolate pudding (which is RAW and VEGAN) but have never got around to it until today. Gosh, have I EVER been missing out! Seriously. This chocolate pudding is the best stuff–and it’s WAY healthier than the chocolate I ate on my birthday!
Note: Since I added the organic Oikos Greek yogurt, my recipe isn’t raw or vegan like Angela’s. If you’d prefer it to be, head on over to her site (linked above) and use her recipe. If you don’t mind the yogurt, feel free to make mine! (I am going to try it without the yogurt next time. I think I added too much cocoa powder this time, or maybe it was an after taste from the agave nectar. Ya think? Should I try a different Agave? Any suggestions on that?)
Organic Blue Agave

Cocoa Powder, Vanilla Extract, Agave

Into the Food Processor

4 avocados (forgot to photo them separately, sorry!)
1/2 unsweetened cocoa powder (I used the Certified Organic NOW brand)
3/4 cup agave nectar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons of water
All Combined

It tasted TOO chocolate-y. Does that make sense? So I added a 5.3 ounce container of organic Vanilla Oikos Greek yogurt to try to mellow it out some….

After the Oikos

Scraped Clean

Into a Container
(Notice the recipe on the fridge in the background for lots of future use!)

Creamy Chocolate Heaven

Half a Banana, Sliced

With Chocolate Pudding On Top!

Yum-O!!
(This chocolate lovin’ girl is H-A-P-P-Y!!!)

How’d your Sunday go? After I made this awesome chocolate pudding, I cleaned out the fridge and between fridge veggies and stuff from the garden, I juiced up a few containers of raw juice.
